I am hoping to be able to get out Thursday if work lets me off for another day ..... probably head over towards Christchurch Ledge or The Needles (depending on sea state)
-
we were out yesterday too. Big baits ...... no fish. Dropped a smaller bait over the side and we managed 3 whiting, a pout and a doggie. Its still nice to be out tho'

While I agree with you in part, there is a big part of me that is saying it is what the emergency services are for. If it was not for accidents, fate, and/or poor preparation (or a combination of them) there would be no need for the emergency services. John 8:7; Let he who has never sinned cast the first stone. I only say the above because i too needed the emergency services a month or so ago and it wasn't till that moment that I realised just how ill prepared I was,

I can imagine that would have been very scary.

Thank you Mike, I think I fished the spoils (about 3 miles South East of Old Harry) on Tuesday ..... didnt spoil me either
-
the spoils???? I hear all these names of places but have no idea where any of them are (apart from Poole Patch)!! As you launched from Mudeford I am assuming the Spoils are over towards the Needles?

I suppose if all electronics have gone and there is no way of knowing if you are in a shipping channel or not I would have thought PROCEED VERY SLOWLY would be the the recommendation. I may be wrong and will bow to the experience of others.

Good call Mick. We went out in it yesterday with 2 chart plotters on the go and it was very scary. It was my first venture in the fog and it will be my last deliberate one! I assumed it would be easy to follow my previous lines on the plotters but it is completely different when you have no references you can see. Save the credits for when you can enjoy it :-)

we were out today .... very very foggy through the harbour made for very slow progress. Once we got to the harbour entrance we tied up to a buoy to wait for the fog to lift. We didnt have to wait long but the sea was pretty grotty out of the harbour with a fair swell making our progress almost as slow as the fog had done. We followed a couple of private boats out to our mark (although one of them turned back towards the harbour about a mile out). Both of us on the boat felt pretty grim at times but we managed to keep our breakfasts down. The swell eased after a few hours and by mid day you would never have known it was ther same day. I managed a doggie and a couple of pout, my mate a single pout. We started the return trip at 3.15 and by the time we were half way into the harbour the fog had rolled back in and we were down to a walking pace again. Pretty hard days fishing but still great to be out and away from Christmas TV.

I will be staying West (unless the water is mirror flat, in which case we may turn left at the harbour exit)

Ha Ha Pete.... you sound just like my old father in law (and that is a good thing) .... we are obviously on different sides of the political spectrum and I am sure we could discuss this till the cows come home (and maybe we will one day) but for now I will wish you and everyone else on here a wonderful Christmas and a prosperous and healthy 2011. I am off to see my "other family" in another part of the country, well away from computers and phones so till the 28th i will bid you all MERRY CHRISTMAS

it is a balancing act Peter. Unfortunately as with every business (apart from the last Government) the books have to balance. As Dave said earlier it will take a brave Government and years of pain to get ius back on track. Yet every time the coilition make a cut they get masses of demonstrators saying it is the wrong cut. Some do gooders have even complained that housing benefit is going to be capped (at a level above what some people earn)!! If my business is losing money (as it did for a while during the earlier part of the recession) I have to make decisions that may be to the detriment of a few but to the benefit of the majority.

Peter, My son works for me and his good lady is a trainee manageress at a local hotel (they both earn reasonable wages for the area). They have a toddler and pay almost the whole of her wages in childcare. Their rent for a 2 bedroom privately rented flat is overstretching them and they have been threatened with eviction immediately after Christmas. Almost without exception, his mates (who have kids) have no jobs and have council (or housing authority) properties fully paid for by us (and him) the tax payer. Some have even "seperated" just so that she & the kids can get housed and then he moves back in with her!!! It is a ridiculous situation that my son (and many like him) would probably be better off not working and allowing the rest of us to finance them!

A Kentucky State Trooper was patrolling late at night off the main highway. He sees a couple in a car, with the interior light brightly glowing. He carefully approaches the car to get a closer look. Then he sees a young man behind the wheel, reading a computer magazine. He immediately notices a young woman in the rear seat, filing her fingernails. Puzzled by this surprising situation, the trooper walks to the car and gently raps on the driver's window. The young man lowers his window. 'Uh, yes, Officer?' The trooper asks: 'What are you doing?' The young man says: 'Well, Officer, I'm reading a magazine.' Pointing towards the young woman in the back seat the trooper says: 'And her, what is she doing?' The young man shrugs: 'Sir, I believe she's filing her fingernails.' Now, the trooper is totally confused. A young couple, alone, in a car, at night in a lover's lane ... And nothing obscene is happening! The trooper asks: 'What's your age, young man?' The young man says: 'I'm 22, sir.' The trooper asks: 'And her .... what's her age?' The young man looks at his watch and replies: 'She'll be 18 in 11 minutes...... '

I use Windguru but as I live within a few hundred yards of the water, ultimately the state of that water helps with my final decision.

count me in with at least one crew (obviously depending on the weather).
