Mike, I haven't done any on the lower reaches. I don't see why they wouldn't be there - I think it is such a mixed bag down there! Seen a few reasonable carp caught form the old quay by the boat rental hut! See if Dommy or Gnasher pick up this thread - they fish around Tuckton Bridge I think. Rob

Plenty up the Stour - near the canoe club Think you need a day ticket and \ or membership of Ringwood club now though! Otherwise trail your boat to Llangorse in wales - I had a great time there: http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=7209

Desperate times call for desperate measures!!! This is when you need to put the boat away and earn brownie points by painting and other odd jobs round the house - then when the bream, turbot, plaice arrive we are all free and ready to go catch. Well, that's what I'm doing!! (Might get a bit of piking in too blow the cobwebs!) Rob

    Happy Birthday

Enjoy whilst you can still remember it!
  5. I think there lies the issue Peter - forced discards are one thing (EU quotas etc), but, a boat choosing to discard as they have found \ netted a more proffitable catch is another. Rob

    Fog Caution!

At night Adam you can see the lights of other craft and navigational markers and Bramble Bush Bay! (we codul hear her but not see her until we were upon her!!!) I think the issues with keeping a straight course was underestimating how much focus and concentration that would need. Boats dont handle well at 5knts in clear conditions and need constant correction - if you are doing this in fog whilst wiping the inside of the windows - putting you gloves on etc it is challenging - a good crew doing everything else allows the driver to focus and that is what is needed! Good luck Mr Holt - I am sure will will see you down here for a bit of fishing. Perhaps a trail-away to your small holding \ camsite coudl be on the cards!!!! Incidently, which "Mike" have you sold her to? Rob

    hi, new one

Join the club and crew for people - nowt better than to experience a boat for yourself - and get bored to death by the owner telling you how good it is!!!

    Fog Caution!

Good points Mike - I think Colin and I did pretty much all of that. A few time he frightened the life out of me with the horn. We woudl reply to any horns that we heard and try to keep sounding every minute. I kept a look out over the cabin by standing on a cool box. With the advantage of lovely quite Honda 4-strokes it was easy to hear other craft. Speed was down to 5 knots. We kept to the edge of the channels and hopped from marker to marker. We had a knife ready on the anchor rope just in case. Possibly would think twice if going again - though I expect the time of year mean't that the boat traffic was kept to a minimum. A sea fog rollling in on a sumers day woudl be a different story! Rob

    light bulbs

Don't see why not - I have one and it works OK. I think the only issues with energy savers is a dimmer - though you might be able to get dimmable ones now. Rob
  16. I think that it needs to be remembered that, putting yourself at risk also puts those at risk who work\volunteer to come and rescue, pick you up, airlift you and \ or try to assist. I guess these people wanted to go play in the surf of the race - fine, but why do it so late in the day close to darkness. The first mayday call was at 16:00 - could have been Darwin award contenders in that group!
  17. Yes, Tony and I were thinking of Bob today and how we were letting him down by not catching!!! Well done to all who fished, or just turned up at the weigh-in. Rob
  18. It will say on th tyre what weight it will support at the max (60 psi) - if you are nearing that weight then you will need to be near 60 psi. Rob
  19. I carry a backup gps which contains buoyage data and I have added a number of waypoints - this runs off it's own AA batteries and\or cig lighter socket if available. Even my phone now would give me an idea via Google Maps. It is all good and well having multiple gps recievers \ plotters, but if they all use the same aerial, same power source (prob boat batteries) & go through the same fuse box unit etc then they are not independant. The safest option is to have two discreet units and of course at least a paper chart and a compass! Rob

  23. You must have been behind Boblin - the truckline was going down the main channel as we were passing RMYC. We could hear it's horn. But as Colin had a hunch it was to bee out around that time we literally hugged the outside line of the channel - we hopped from green buoy to green buoy, as we woudl expect her to be in teh middle. I think with a good look out (outside the cabin), sensible speed and expect the un-expected it was OK. Perhaps the fairly quiet outboards of Boblin helped as but other boats were diesel and easy to hear approaching. Good to hear we were all safe and sound. Rob
  24. Anyone following Boblin yesterday would have thought we had been drinking, the fog was so disorientating, we used a good old fashioned compass to ensure we were pointing in the right direct, the electronics were too slow to react. Looks like we did well Colin!! Rob
  25. Dave I only have data back to 2000. The name C40 is referenced in a manual, however it is 3 cylinder. File attached - advise when you have taken a copy so I can remove it from this post! Rob (attachment removed)
