  1. Cheers for the help guys! i think that were going to look into the Shimano Baitrunner range, (and choose one of the thousands of models!!!) Sorry for the delayed reply, been in spain for a week! Dan
  2. Hey all! Im looking to buy a new fixed-spool reel, to pair with a John Wilson Tideline 12lb 7ft rod, and to be fished with braid, but a bit unsure with the thousands of choices out there!! Ideally, its got to be able to stand up to our usual fishing (hauling 1lb + leads off the floor, no fish...) as well as for trolling (which is why we are looking at fixed spool, for the faster retrieval speeds), and be reasonably priced around
  3. Have a look at this, about 35min in... http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00rm...s_Speed_Limits/ some super slow footage of what happens when a propeller cavitates, and a proper explaination! (even if it is by richard hammond... ) Dan
  4. Happy 18th Birthday Mate! 18's the big one, that youll (probably) never remember!!! Dan

    Toughbook

Could you not download said programmes from the internet, and if you already have disc copies of them, enter your authentic serial number? That would eliminate the need for a CD drive, adaptors, or transferring to usb! Nowadays you can get about 90% of programmes online, such as fully working Operating systems (if you know the right place to look )
  6. .... Fortunately separated by a large volume of water .... Dan
  7. i dont understand how to read the side-scan images... can anyone help? how does the dual image, with the line in the middle relate to the standard sonar scans? Dan
  8. I went up on friday for the preview day (free tickets...) and i have to say, it was the quietest ive ever seen it! and i manage to go every year!! Southamptons definately taking over! Dan
  9. sorry, but in any swell, i really dont want to stand on the foredeck of our boat (MF625), laying out anchor warp! Its bad enough sitting on it, with my feet braced either side of the open anchor locker, which i can jump in if it gets a bit hairy! Surely an easier option is to simply mark the warp? a bit of paint every 10m or so, and you soon know how much youve let out! With the configuration of our boats anchor locker, (cleat inside the locker) i tend to let the chain out through gloved hands (you can control the speed then) and then once onto warp, have one loop under the cleat, so that it adds some friction to the anchor going out. This way, it slows the decent of the anchor in a controlled manner (much like a climber abseiling), when i need to lock it off, its very simple to put another turn over the other horn of the cleat, and if i have to stop it quickly, putting my foot on the cleat (which is just pushing forward while sitting on the foredeck) does the job immediately! Dan
  10. could be due to the snow? staff left early? i know the RMYC staff got sent home early yesterday (around 3.30pm) as someone told them a blizzard was on the way... lol ... there was no blizzard.... Dan
  11. We use a 7.5kg bruce, with enough warp and chain for the areas we typically fish, though i think on tuesday, we had issues anchoring, due to to they bottom type, which seemed to consist of small rocks (about the size of the anchor...), as when we lifted it the first time, one of these was nicely wedged between the shank and spade of the bruce! possibly to do with us being on the edge of the spoil grounds? Dan
  12. cheers for that! i may aswell stop the economics degree now! it doesnt really explain the self-purchasing of government bonds though, and the difference between us and Zimbabwe... Dan
  13. right.. this has been pestering me now, so it deserves capitals... WHY CANT THE FORCASTERS DECIDE ON SOMETHING, AND STICK TO IT!!!!, all 3 of the forecasts i use (xc weather, metcheck and windguru) have changed completely the forecast for tuesday, every time they update, and all have been showing different things!!!! it seems they all copy each other, but are a few hours behind... one massive roundabout of forecasts!!! RRRGGGHHHHH rant over. Dan
  14. we are thinking of either tomorrow (tuesday), and if the weather gets wet / foggy, wait unti Wednesday! Itching to get out! Either needles/ dolphin or a mix of both Dan
  15. great minds think alike brian!! Adam, do you anchor dolphin sands, or drift them? Dan
  16. Below is for xchurch entrance, for the next 7 days.... If i go south of the needles tomorrow (tuesday), is it also going to be a 2lb lead day? or will i get away with less?... if so, i guess dolphin sands will be where we will search for this winters first cod!!! Dan
  17. As far as nostalgia road takes you old codgers! Its funny how as soon as the fishing is off for a prolonged period of time, all the threads start of withdrawal systems , odd jobs, jokes and hopeful weather windows! quite true, but you have got one heck of an immense car, with so much potential!] for lambos / bugattis / ferraris do 200mph with spoilers for downforce, aerodynamics, ceramic brakes etc... imagine doing it in that hunk of junk!!!
  18. 12mpg... but back then fuel was dirt cheap! (wasnt it? i wasnt alive then... ) with the old fords.. what about the legendary cosworth?! still worth about

    3g

3g is supposedly the mobile broadband, and is supported by most modern phones, it basically facilitates faster internet browsing on your phone. However, if youve got broadband at home, it will drive you nuts as its SO SLOW!!!! Also, make sure your contract has an allowance for internet usage, othewise you will create quite a hefty bill by the end of the month!!!!! to fiddle around with it, it should be in the connectivity settings of your nokia phone, and its possible to have your network send you a text that will sort it out automagically! Dan
