Hi Mike I have a feeling that I may regret this but please confirm meaning of wafi's as in That's a hell of a scope Charlie, 5 to 1! I thought the Wafi's used 3 to 1 for overnighting with no anchor watch. For an all chain system that most yachts seem to use 3;1 would be fine but the system we use of a short chain and long rope 5:1 is recomended especially in areas wher the tides are strong and ground is soft or loose [shingle Banks] As Adam says, best anchor well away from a wreck and lay on a longer warp, than try and anchor close, the anchor bounces out and guess where it finishes up!!! in the wreckage never to be seen again [unless a dive boat is close] GW carried a coil [220m of 12mm nylon] and at times off of anvil Point and St Albans most of it could be out. Back to the start of topic It is not just about type of rope and feel it also needs to be strong and durable. The cheap ropes are neither. Nylon can get chaffed and scruffy and will still be strong, the cheaper types would not fair so well. The rope strops on our Club Moorings at PYC are light and extremly strong , but chaff away and melt if rubbed on a chain riser. Result is an unmanned boat cruising the harbour on wind and tide. Hi Coddy You seem to have all the advice already I tend to only use a second anchor/stake when essential and only in the harbour. outside I use a Sea anchor if required, my current has a line to collapse it for recovery. I lost one as the tide built up while I was busy fishing and I could not recover it in the strong tide flow. I could not weigh anchor or recover the sea anchor so the sea anchor had to go [i should have buoyed the line, then weighed anchor and chased after it, but the rope was burning my hands and had to just lose the sea anchor ] lesson learnt the hard way again Charlie

Jack as the vehicle depreciates have you reduced the insured value? You would not be paid more than that, so not much point in paying premiums on the 12k they would not pay you. Being over insured is as bad as under insured Charlie

We usualy use the Handle of the Stainless Steel J bar disgorger [1" Dia Stainless bar], or snap the necks. But I turned down an excelent hardwood priest for a friend when he emigrated and wished I had made two. Very inetesting to compare the test BS to the knotted test BS and compare the results to the cost as others I would like to see more of the others we use on the list. I like fireline as its strong and durable. I had heard it tested high, but have had it tested for line class fish/trophies by the British Conger Club and it was within parameters. Charlie

If anyone is really interested I have a video that was sent to me prior to a holiday in New Zealand, if you would like to borrow it or copy to CD. It show 3 lads fishing off the shore for Snapper and Kingfish up to well over 30lb an interesting type of angling, that even though we tried hard we could not get the fishing right when we were there. They use Kyaks to access the remote fishing marksand have the local knowledge [ my excuse] We had more luck close inshore from small boats, Dan had a morey eel and Sam a Kingfishamongst the many species caught. If we had that type of fishing here it would be great, but alas pout and dogs rule Charlie

Hi Mike I am sure you have thought long and hard about the boat and engine. I am also sure that you will have a great deal of fun on her, with the additional space, greater comfort and a walk on pontoon all adding to the enjoyment. We have berth Holders at the Club whose boating is greatly enhanced by a Marina berth. From more use of the boat for its primary use, easy access for upkeep and maintenance to simply sundowners while in the berth. Some use the Boat twice as much as they used too I am sure you and the crew will have a great new toy for 2007 . Tight Lines see you afloat. Charlie
