  1. Thanks Mark An excellent evening great company and the food and service was great. I second Coddy's proposal, go for it mate Merry Christmas Charlie, Wendy and Dan
  2. Tight lines all I am unable to accept offers of a trip this year, Sams gutted as He had 3 offers. I am afraid it was thanks but no thanks this time. You will be pleased to know a few cod are showing from Poole I hear that two 30+ lunkers were landed this week on Charter boats Merry Christmas Charlie
  3. Hi Welcome to the Forum. several things effect seasickness not just the size of the swell Those that never suffer are ether lucky or spend a lot of time at sea. The onset is usually made worse if you are tired, cold, hungry or hung over. So there are a few preventative steps you can take without the drugs. Get a good rest the days before, avoid the booze, wrap up warm and have a good breakfast. My youngest Dan used to suffer a lot, he now has warmer clothing including Hotboots and has taken to eating Ginger nuts during the trip. actually the best way to keep Dan well is to get him catching fish, keep the body active and you are less likely to suffer. Personally I have never actualy been sick but eating pork pies and drinking fizzy drinks while afloat sometimes make me feel a bit queezy. Best cure [except the old tree joke], is to get a few short trips in better weather under your belt before taking on a long range offshore trip in the rougher winter weather. Tight lines Merry Christmas Charlie
  4. Bob You could have used the approach the Royal Marines use in shalow water engine off everyone overboard and push the boat through the shallows untill it gets deep. without the body weight the boat rides higher. Then again. they were likely to carry the boat if it got really shallow. and I dont think they feel pain. Well thats what they were supposed to do, the number of props I changed after every night excercise indicated that they did not do it when out of sight. Charlie
  5. Nice fish mate and comiserations about the stones I used to have a heavy 18ft dory in the Southsea Club compound by the public slip and at time struggled to get through the stones even using the Club winch. Most of us carried shovels in our cars just in case, but 6ft seems a lot to shovel The economy at this time should be good, cold air into the engine increases the burn efficiency, does not help with cold starting though Charlie
  6. Hi its a joke this PC wording of adverts a recent advert at the Club saw 32 responses for a boatmans job Some were as young as 16 oldest 55 the most worrying was that some of the applicants had never done any boating. Charlie
  7. Way to go Paul I am sure that all the effort was well worth it, great fish Charlie
  8. Thanks Dave I have not received my copy yet and did not know it was used, but am very glad to hear that they published it Charlie
  9. This one has just arrived by email and will interest a few Members especially those changing to boats with powerful diesels RED DIESEL UPDATE The BMF has received a letter from HM Treasury Minister, John Healey MP which confirms that there will be no immediate change from 1 January 2007 as the Government will need to take time to implement the decision taken by the European Commission. A copy of the Minister's letter is attached together with a statement issued by the BMF. Some members have had confusing messages from their fuel suppliers suggesting that they will not be able to supply red diesel at a lower rate of duty from 1 January. That is not the case. The BMF has contacted the Federation of Petroleum Suppliers who have put out a clear message to their members and on their website www.fpsonline.co.uk THERE WILL BE NO CHANGE TO THE CURRENT SITUATION ON 1 JANUARY 2007 AND BOATERS WILL CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO USE LOWER RATE RED DIESEL UNTIL GOVERNMENT IMPLEMENTS THE COMMISSIONS DECISION IN THE UK.
  10. Tom I think Sam was probably hinting that he would like a drive but did not want to ask directly. he is not usually shy Perhaps he is still waiting for another trip on quest after distributing your brochures in the summer. I am sure you would rather take potential customers, but if you are short of crew try Sam or Dan they finish at school today. Charlie
  11. He text me a photo She was a big brute, not sure a 70lb fish but apparently it was as long as his boat is wide, so about 8 to 8.5 ft. I will see if Sam can get the photo off of my phone and add it here later Regards Charlie
  12. I had a call from Frank last evening to report a bass of 5lb 8oz and a very large conger The Eel supports my last post, about the species cups still open for grabs apparently it was the bigest conger he has ever seen, about 8ft long The beasty bottomed his scales at the Max 50lb mark before destroying them, so will have to be recorded at 50lb even though Frank thinks it was nearer to 70 It was returned alive rather than knocked on the head just to weigh it Nice one Frank, let them go so we can have a go for them when the boats done Tight lines all Charlie
  13. Well done Gordon and Chris, Nice to hear there are a few about, but I hope this is posted in a Members only area as even flounders seem hard to find at the moment. and we would not like all to know where they are. Dan enjoyed a great day afloat with Dave on Sammy but they both blanked. Charlie
  14. Nice fish Paul Good to hear that there are still some about The fish book looks sad after all this poor weather I hope that a few get out in the next few days as the wind forcast is calm. and I get a late run on fish reports for 2006. I do think some of this years fish for species Trophy's are a little small this year and could still be beaten. [congers, dogs etc] I will be joining in the Christmas round of socials, and working on the boat between headaches but I still wish all those able to get out, tight lines Charlie
  15. Tight lines all for tomorrow dan is crewing for Coddy and i believe Bob is crewing For Graham Gear Charlie
  16. I am sure if we were telling the French what to charge they would be blockading ferry ports as they have done before I can not remember it happening this side of the Channel when brussels tell us what to charge. Charlie
  17. Not sure that a petition will carry much weight against the chance for the Chancellor to raise money to waste elsware But I have signed the petition. charlie
  18. Nice one Paul
  19. jUST RECEIVED THIS BY EMAIL BMF HAS EARLY MEETING WITH HM REVENUE & CUSTOMS ON RED DIESEL The BMF and RYA met with senior Customs officials on Monday 11 December to discuss the announcement made on Thursday 7 December that the EC would not renew the Red Diesel derogation. The key points arising out of the meeting were:- The decision from Europe is final and there is no appeals process. The UK Government now has to implement that decision into national law in a timescale that is acceptable to the Commission. Our officials (and the Minister) seem genuinely disappointed that they have not been able to retain the derogation. The UK case to the Commission was heavily based on the economic impact on the industry. Our Government will now be taking their time to get implementation right. The process to implement the legislation will require an announcement in a budget statement in Parliament followed by a Finance Act and possible secondary legislation. Prior to that there will need to be consultation with all interested parties. When the law is finally enacted in the UK companies will not be able to sell red diesel to leisure users (the benefit to commercially operated craft will remain). This will require companies to put in the infrastructure to stock and supply ultra low sulphur diesel (ULSD) - the same diesel sold on the high street. Boat users will be able to continue to use lower duty red diesel until the law is implemented. The BMF has received a large amount of comments and questions from members, boat users and the media. All of these points will be raised as the Federation continues to work with Government as their thinking on implementation develops over the coming months. Charlie
  20. That may be handy a volvo agent Charlie
