  1. Hi Adam Its Sad to see them go mate, but I am sure you will get a good replacement Charlie
  2. Mike F The spots we look for off anvil point are 36 to 42 metres deep therefore if the tide is running and to be sure the metal bites a long warp is required. A nice day and neap tide 3:1 would work but that is still over 100 metres of warp. loads of members have failed to get their anchors to hold when trying to fish these marks without sufficient size of anchor, amount of chain or length of warp. Ask the lads from Burnham, they tried to share marks and failed due to mud anchors and short warps Mad Mike We can not paint all Yachties with the same brush But i am sure more members have been cut up or crowded out by a Yacht under sail than have returned the favour. I will not elaberate here, but they do not like fisheads in their sails even if they were close enough just to lob them in as the sailed past my anchored boat 2 miles out. charlie
  3. Hi Does anyone know of someone who will look at a digital camera [Olympus 450 zoom] The lens on mine has taken a knock and will not retract, Olympus say send it back and we will do a standard charge repair
  4. Jas The oportunity to test the boat for fit have instruction and an extended sea trial on an identical boat without a baised opinion for
  5. Not arguing with that Pete "Providing the anchor and chain are up to the job" is the essential bit IMHO was just advising that half a coiil or less may be too short if combined with light chain and anchor in depths over 100ft Bigger anchor and heavier /longer chain is the other option of course. How are the boat building projects going Charlie
  6. Hi Mike I have a feeling that I may regret this but please confirm meaning of wafi's as in That's a hell of a scope Charlie, 5 to 1! I thought the Wafi's used 3 to 1 for overnighting with no anchor watch. For an all chain system that most yachts seem to use 3;1 would be fine but the system we use of a short chain and long rope 5:1 is recomended especially in areas wher the tides are strong and ground is soft or loose [shingle Banks] As Adam says, best anchor well away from a wreck and lay on a longer warp, than try and anchor close, the anchor bounces out and guess where it finishes up!!! in the wreckage never to be seen again [unless a dive boat is close] GW carried a coil [220m of 12mm nylon] and at times off of anvil Point and St Albans most of it could be out. Back to the start of topic It is not just about type of rope and feel it also needs to be strong and durable. The cheap ropes are neither. Nylon can get chaffed and scruffy and will still be strong, the cheaper types would not fair so well. The rope strops on our Club Moorings at PYC are light and extremly strong , but chaff away and melt if rubbed on a chain riser. Result is an unmanned boat cruising the harbour on wind and tide. I hope that helps in some way Charlie
  7. Billy I may have missed it but have the fishing times and boat leaving and returning times been mentioned. I am sure my lad Dan will be very interested, and we could share transport with other parents on a rosta if other Members kids are fishing. Charlie
  8. Hi Coddy You seem to have all the advice already I tend to only use a second anchor/stake when essential and only in the harbour. outside I use a Sea anchor if required, my current has a line to collapse it for recovery. I lost one as the tide built up while I was busy fishing and I could not recover it in the strong tide flow. I could not weigh anchor or recover the sea anchor so the sea anchor had to go [i should have buoyed the line, then weighed anchor and chased after it, but the rope was burning my hands and had to just lose the sea anchor ] lesson learnt the hard way again Charlie
  9. Jack as the vehicle depreciates have you reduced the insured value? You would not be paid more than that, so not much point in paying premiums on the 12k they would not pay you. Being over insured is as bad as under insured Charlie
  10. Hi Adam Bad luck mate but something else will come along. perhaps something bigger and more ready to go Happy hunting Charlie
  11. Paul Now that your confidence in the boat and the new engine is growing I would not be to keen to get rid of half your anchor warp. If you start to fish the deeper marks you may need more than 110 metres Max recomended scope of 5:1 110 mtres only good for 22 metre depth Charlie
  12. Good luck with the sale Adam There can not be many boats as well looked after as yours. Charlie

    Kosh

We usualy use the Handle of the Stainless Steel J bar disgorger [1" Dia Stainless bar], or snap the necks. But I turned down an excelent hardwood priest for a friend when he emigrated and wished I had made two. It was about the 12" long with a max Dia of 2", a handle with some ridges for grip and drilled for a lanyard. The hardwood [oak] gave it weight and bouyancy if it went overboard. Charlie

although the letters page did ramble on a bit Bitch
  17. Very inetesting to compare the test BS to the knotted test BS and compare the results to the cost as others I would like to see more of the others we use on the list. I like fireline as its strong and durable. I had heard it tested high, but have had it tested for line class fish/trophies by the British Conger Club and it was within parameters. Charlie
  18. If anyone is really interested I have a video that was sent to me prior to a holiday in New Zealand, if you would like to borrow it or copy to CD. It show 3 lads fishing off the shore for Snapper and Kingfish up to well over 30lb an interesting type of angling, that even though we tried hard we could not get the fishing right when we were there. They use Kyaks to access the remote fishing marksand have the local knowledge [ my excuse] We had more luck close inshore from small boats, Dan had a morey eel and Sam a Kingfishamongst the many species caught. If we had that type of fishing here it would be great, but alas pout and dogs rule Charlie

  21. Bye Bye great white hello new thingy Cut and pasted from Martins post when my old boat went, so my guess is; Bye Bye Maverick hello AWOL Charlie
  22. SAD Definatly time to get your coat. Charlie
  23. I too may go to look at electronics, then check with the USA company that Mark used. If I get tickets I will let you know, what day were you thinking of going? I may get some tickets at trade price, if anyone else is interested let me know. As my boss is off sick it may not have been arranged. Charlie
  24. Adam I have a trailer at work that I could arrange for you if Martins is not good. Alternativly I could arrange a berth within easy reach for maverick while you use her trailer. I am presuming that the new boat is fairly iminent, I have a moisture tester at work if she is ashore and you want to check the hull prior to launching for trials. call me, to discuss when you need the above. Charlie
  25. Nice one Martin I hope you and all the family have fun on her. I am sure she will serve you very well, sorry I missed you yesterday. Sam bumped into Dean and he was over the moon and dying to take her for a spin today. I am sure you will be adding a few bits, Electronics and rod rests etc to enhance her fishing capabilities. Very Tight Lines Charlie
