Great White will be out there somewhere hopefully the weather will suit the boys for crew. If its to rough for the kids, do you fancy crewing again Bob? We will keep the bait inside this time. Charlie. We need 12 to fish to give James a great chance to get into the final fish off for the BFM prize. So please enter even if you are only out pleasure fishing with the family. all you have to do is let me know what is caught so that I can send in the results within 7 days. Saying that I am sure we are not just going to let you win James. and it may get busy on Xray [wherever that is????] Tight lines all Charlie

Bob, I do not know the uptider but Sam and Daniel both have 30lb ugly stick gold boat rods they seem very good and strong, although the rings are on the cheap side. I don't think you would get one of those doing what your last one did. the old ugly sticks were marketed as the strongest rods available. Charlie

Tip 2 When called out of the sea [at Shoreham] by the police for skinny dipping and being slightly under the influance. Do not try and pat the nice mans dog on the head. The thing nearly took my bloody hand off. But as I had nothing on, I was lucky he aimed at my hand. Yes it was a cold night . and alsations may not have good eyesight in the dark. but I would not risk it again. Charlie

Try a good motor factors to see if they have an equivilent we use new forest 01202 691111 to get a lot of the filters for the various engines at the Yacht Club. A big saving on the volvo/Bukh/Yanmar/perkins spares. I use them for the filters on my boat instead of Perkins. Charlie

Adam for info, my pump is attached by a jubilee clip to a reinforced pipe about 3 mtrs long that is then fixed around the inside of the tanks top. The end of the hose is bunged up and 6mm holes are drilled into it facing down into the tank. a discharge overboard is fitted like yours 3/4 way up the tank, with a strainer To use tha tank at rest the pump is simply put overboard and fresh sea water is pumped through the tank. when underway the pump is lifted back onboard and put into the tank to recycle and re-oxigenate the water in the tank while the boat is underway. The system works well enough to keep about a dozen mackeral or 100 eels alive all day without any problem. To be honest if I have less bait or am on a short trip I do not bother with the pump I simply top the tank up by buckets occasionally to refresh the water and keep it cool. You must however try not to get any blood in the tank [from bleeding fish after unhooking] remove all dead fish asap do not leave obstructions like the net in the tank when in use. I am sure your design will prove worth the effort, I just wish I had a better source of live eels. Charlie

It dawned on me that the old junior ones on my boat would struggle to keep Sam or Daniel afloat if me and Wendy needed the only 2 adult ones that are left onboard. I have just bought 2 Auto Jackets [Adult 150n] with three year warrenty from Pete Trew at Quay West Chandelery. @

Adam you ought to send it in to the magazines. Photo's like that with young ladies with a nice fish and a big smile always seem to get in for some reason. well done Racheal Charlie

Hi Adam Well done allways nice to get among the Blondes. We had a day of mixed fortunes most of it was on the drift for Bass with a short anchor out near your tope mark for a ray. No luck with the ray but we had 7 bass, including a new PB for Daniel of 4lb 2oz. Nice to be afloat again on somthing smaller than the condor ferry. But it got a bit choppy at the end so we were not surprised to see you join us at old Harry. Tight lines Charlie

Best of luck on the trail away, I have a weeks regatta starting Sunday, so am hoping to get out on GW with the boys on Sat. During the holiday they have read up on wreck fishing and want a go, but I suspect it will clash with divers. so we will be on a reef or Sandbank west of Swanage instead. Tight lines all Charlie

Hi Mike, Being a spectator does not sound to dangerous. But as some of the lads in the SBS are built like brick outhouses and can get a bit grumpy when they have not slept for a couple of nights I decided to take the sensible approach & keep out of the way. We have to spin some yarns on the forum when the summer weather is this good Regards Charlie
-
Divers!!! who mentioned that word on our website The sky probably has its fair share and more Its dived by a lot of weymouth and Poole dive boats and RIBs from everywhere that have been launched at Swanage. As for Club records????? I hooked an SBS Diver off of Warbarrow during a night excercise, but did not stay on the upper deck long enough to see if it was a big one. so he probably would not count By the time they came out of the water the tackle was stowed in the engine room for safe keeping, and I was watching TV in the crew room. Depends how much juice you need Corrals by the Poole lifting bridge or the pump at the Chandelery in Salterns Marina, If its only a couple of drums I may be able to help you out at work, but you will need to supply the drums. I may be able to help with short term berthing as well if you need it. while you get ready for your journey. Charlie
-
Adam the smaller blue plastic drums are used to transport chain Check your contacts through work for chain suppliers and you should be able to find them they must be about 30ltrs and have a plastic lid so make a self contained storage unit for all the bits when not in use. as for the overflow, use a bigger bore skin fitting than the inlet and about 3/4 up the tank and you should not get a problem. You may also be able to make it so that this drains into your outboard well or overboard if the warriors freeboard is low enough. As you can see I am now back from France so if you want to check the tank on GW give me a call. Charlie

I think Ow Much was out the other week and saw a boat burning out in the bay the crew had been taken off and all they could do was watch the boat burn until it sank Shame to see that, even if it wasn't a fishing boat Charlie

Looking at the picture it is a fuel filter/water trap and with that amount of rust an imediate change is needed before it splits and dumps all your fuel into the bilge. the water inside looks to have rusted it almost through. That would be pricey but more importantly potentially lethal 1. because of the danger of fire/explosion in your bilge 2. putting all your fuel to bilge will soon stop your engine, with a ruptured in line filter you can not get it running again without a lot of ingenuity and a few tools. and while doing this you are stood on a slippery deck up to your ankles in petrol. It happened to Ow Much with his Diesel filter and he had a long tow back to Poole by the RNLI We use solar panals on our nav lights at work they keep a lights 12v battery charged as long as it has a light cell to turn off the lamp in the daytime. They can struggle in the winter with short daylight and a lot of dark rainy days. But to trickle charge to compensate for a short run of a bilge pump they would be adequate. Your original question a bilge pump switch panel has 3 poitions Auto, Off and Manual[On] You feed this switch from the battery and run a three core cable to the area of the float switch and pump Pos and neg then go to the pump from the switch in the manual position the positive from the auto position goes through the vacant third core to the float switch, then from the float switch to the pos input to the pump[ shared with manual above pos] That way when the flost switch closes the pos gets to the pump and as it is connected already to a negative it runs until the float switch opens again. The off poition is as expected not connected, it is usually the centre of a three way rocker switch. On my boat the wires for the float and pump are connected by a Choc Block to the wire from the switch panal, this is then fastened to the engine water inlet pipework to keep it out of the bilge The above is from memory and I may have got it wrong and the switch should be on the neg side but I am sure someone will say if I have, and I am not sure if it makes any differance anyway. I hope that helps Charlie

hi James Sounds like you had another good day and for the second time this month one of Gary's Club records have been broken your LSD beats the existing by 2oz. I was out last night Due to the lack of wind one day of a dinghy world championship being held at work was cancelled yesterday. So I took advantage of finishing work at my normal time and went out after work Once I passed Durlstone there was a breeze but not too much. I was alone so I used the chance to check out some numbers I have been given. 1st wreck came straight up no problem but a dive boat arrived before I had the anchor down , I decided not to make a fuss this time and to leave them to a dive and move to the other numbers 1/2 mile away. Sods law, I could not find that one. Anchored a bank that was very close and had dogs to 2lb 13oz The dive boat took the time to pass me as he came in to thank me for moving which was nice. I then decided that I would try the wreck anyway on the ebb tide In the middle of the tide just at dark I hooked a big eel It was the hardest fight I have ever had with one [and I have caught my share] 40 mins later and after and a few dives back to the wreck it was just behind the boat on the surface. Then It got wrapped with the other rods braided line which cut the running leader and a 60lb plus eel went home. By then my arms and back were giving be some grief. Nice to play such a good fish and a shame that it did not get to the boat for weighing and a photo but such is the problem of single handed fishing with two rods It was nice to get a short trip in nice weather for a change. I will be going back to that wreck for hopefully another go at that eel soon Charlie

Looks a bit loaded but Adam says its a tender and the crew are well dressed with lifejackets and wet suits [Which are buoyant] so I doubt if they were off to the infamous Xray mark in it. Charlie

Same in New Zealand No licences but if you get caught over quota for the day or with undersize fish or fishing with the wrong method [ mostly for trout on worms or spinners] the whole outfit is taken Rods reels boats trailers cars the whole outfit. when we were there I read about some boats taken out on loan by non fisherman relatives, they returned with undersize fish to show what they had caught to lose the boat they had borrowed to the bailiffs. I bet the boats owners were really chuffed!!!! Not to many small fish landed in NZ though and the stocks are on the increase They do not have other countrys raiding their 12 mile limits as we do though. Nor a weak government who give our fish to the EEC. I had better stp now before the preaching starts I like others would pay for a licence if it was used to back up some method of increasing the chances of some fishing in the future. but I think I read about licences that were to be given to commercial fisherman without much quota control and sold to anglers with a bag limit. They can stuff that idea, as far as I am concerned. Charlie

Thanks for all the score sheets lads Kim can I have yours please I need to send off to BFM we need to have at least 12 each comp and so far I only have 11 It looks like James has max points after the three so it would be very bad not to have 12 results. If anyone else fished on Sunday please let me know Thanks all Bob and I went out to scratch at Brownsea, started well enough with pout pollack and wrasse then decided to try for more pollack just outside but a large wake had us bouncing around by the chain ferry so much that a container of the days ragworm was absent from the baitboard by the time we started to drift the east looe channel. That forced us out into the choppy stuff several small tope helped the score along but only 1 dogfish and 1 ray we had so many mackeral that when Mark and Paul ran out of bait we called them over and threw them a bagfull. You should have seen Pauls face, I took them out of the livebait tank and did not tell him the bag he was trying to catch had 6 live mackeral in it Bobs uptider snapped on casting which spoilt the day a bit , but the main problem was the weather , and of course shortage of rag after we lost 100 overboard. we had an draw on the boat with 5 species and 77 points each Nice company could have done with a few more fish Charlie
