    Back job

Wow Graham Good luck with recovery Mate Hope the physio is not too painful
  2. Thanks Terry The boys are saving for mooring deposit, so no doubt would opt for a more basic menu. I can now discuss with Will in case we want to extend one of the days fishing a bit Looks like the Marais Hall on night one, and see where we go from there. Possibly book the moorings. Chris You are of very right mate Ref the Franklin flyer, If I remember I will pop one in my pocket on Thursday night to give/show you
  3. I had the same thing when I trailed [after i left the bung out once]
  4. Sounds great mate, no wonder that you are getting excited, I am bad enough just about the Alderney trip. It sounds like there may be several new boats that will miss this trip, but will be keen to organise a second one after the new shiney boats arrive. Have you any more pictures of her yet Charlie
  5. I am not starting that game yet Chris [says through lying teeth LOL] When are you back? There was some discussion on Sat about having a pre meeting Mon/tue evening next week at yours, if the weather looked fairly positive for the trip Rob its the Alderney Angling part that can add a big lump of costs to the trip. Hard to avoid this year as we are staying there I hope everyone are starting to get the buzz, I had to take it easy this weekend because of stitches, and must have been driving Wendy mad, with charts out to copy info onto my tablet and a few hours in the garage making Franklin flyer turbo traces and the like for my new rig holders. On the website again at work is not a good sign Wish I had a pound for every time I check this thread and weather sites in the next 10 days, [That would easily pay for the trip and tackle] Charlie
  6. Sounds like a few lessons were learnt in your first trip Always good to have a good idea of the tide times around here, as the harbour is big but generally not that deep. Also keep an eye on weather sites like wind guru, so that you can see what you may encounter whilst afloat, believe me the lads going to Alderneylwill be very carefully checking both over the next 10 days
  7. We usually plan on 2 hours either side of HW to be sure
  8. For the first bash out in your boat it may be a good idea to delay to a better day, than go in poor weather IMHO
  9. No problem Peter If nobody needs it I will call Mark I have just phoned Mainbrayce and they have confirmed that once again they will give us discount on Fuel prices and water taxi prices They can supply diesel and petrol Looking at the tide times it looks good to get into the inner harbour at the end of the day , they say that they would come down to top us up even if the office is closed. Fri HW 1712 Sat HW 1808 Sun HW 1854 He also asked me to remind me that if you order duty free from the shop, it will be dropped off at the boats just before departure by the water taxi. It may be worth putting their number in your phones 01481 822772 07781 415420 Sounds good to me Charlie
  10. Thanks Stuie but that would not open on my tablet
  11. I have accomadation booked at Alderney Angling for 6 (2 boat crews) Because of a late change 1 bed is now available Does anyone need accomadation, or fancy a change from sleeping onboard Also I am struggling with downloading the braye tide times, could someone put a link on here Charlie, starting to feel the buzz now
  12. Getting close now Have sat down this morning to start looking at tides etc Route may depend on our buddy boat/boats Have I missed any discussions about evening plans?
  13. The flyers will always slam in the wrong conditions, but on a good day they are an excellent fishing boat. Mine was heavily built, and fitted with a 2 stroke 60. She went very well and was as safe as houses. Alfresco is just like a bigger version, on some days we have to slow her down to stop shaking out the fillings, but on others we can cover the miles very well. horses for courses and all that.
  14. Sounds like a good idea to talk it over I will be at the meeting next week.
  15. You could use standard resin to treat the wood after shaping and scribing in to the boats shape I would treat the hidden side and edges first with plain resin (no hardener) and let it soak in, 2nd coat with hardener. Then fix it in the boat witha resin with minimal hardener, The glassing over the fwd face and lockers either side of the engine give it a lot of strength, as would doubling up the timber in the centre where the engine bolts on. Remember to consider the weight, it is essential to get the power to weight ratio right, as well as the balance and bouyancy. That is the reason that there is very little timber in alfresco and a lot of composite board known as needoplas. This material is light and flimsy, until its fitted and glassed in, then it becomes light and tough. The decks are made that way. Nice DIY project Charlie
  16. I thought that it was that way I Would cut out the inner face of the grp, leaving about 2 inches in from the edges where the GRP is thick You could then easily remove all of the existing wood and clean up the transom. You can then make up a new plywood transom out of the right thickness of marine ply. Make this in two halves port and stbd will allow you to fit it into the slot around the edges, a doubler can be put over the centre join to beef it up for the engine. Treat the timber with resin before fitting, and use the same to fix the timber to the original outer skin, the glass over the whole inner face of the wood. If you want to talk it through give me a call 07887 794716 Charlie
  17. Are you saying that the whole transom was ply, or was it the strength between two facings of GRP Had a flyer that I also redecked and did loads of other big jobs. Including beefing up the transom for a new engine That boat gave me the confidence to fit out my last two
  18. Give laurence a call at Barnett Marine 01707 331389 They supply the RIB's that we use at work, which all come fitted with these elephant trunks They also have a sump fitted to the aft end of the deck during build, an auto bilge pump is fitted in that sump to remove rain water to a discharge over the top of the transom
  19. Thanks Rob Just waiting for a bit of chequer plate for the step and some polished stainless to protect the top inner edge of the box
  20. Hi Chris I have one on the bow, but the locker is a bit small and the rope needs assistance to get the rope back in I have now fitted a locker and Lewmar C5 on the side deck May go out again for more trials tomorrow
  21. Nice trophies Steve I hope that you had a great day and a worthy winner enjoys his triumph Well done for organising it.
  22. Hi Chris we wondered about that yesterday, a knee switch rather than a foot switch Where is yours fitted? And do you push it with your knee or kneel on it?
  23. I have inlet at the top via a tube that runs around the inside of the rim and has 6mm holes facing downwards, the end of the tube is bunged up. My outlet is just a 11/2 inch pipe as an overflow, from 3/4 the way up the barrel, fitted with a mesh to keep small fish from escaping. I do not like anything in the barrel that stops the bait circulating. I usually use a 360gph pump, which aerates the water and rotates it to keep it cold. Hope that helps Charlie
  24. Good luck with the sale Dave A very nice package that someone will want now that the weather is improving Charlie
  25. Thanks guys Great to be out fishing in the sunshine Capstan seemed to work well, jury is still out on where the foot switch will finally go, it is currently on a board so we can try a few positions
