  7. I crewed on Loyal Royal and 7.00am saw Mark and I cruising into the early fog heading for the shambles. Plan was a few live eels and have a go on the local wrecks and later anchor down off Lulworth somewhere for a few bream. We soon had a few eels, launce and even my first herring in the well (3 new species for me) and decided to continue drifting to see if we could pick up one or two plaice. After an hour and no plaice we decided that the hood would be a good start for pollock. The tide was on the point of turning so drifts were a little difficult but still had 3 or 4 small pollock to go back. We then decided to go bream hunting. On the way out towards Kimeridge we went over quite a large hole and decided to anchor up and give it a go. Mackeral were all over the place and soon had a box full for bait and a few for the BBQ. I think this could be a good spot when more summer species move in as we were hammered with doggies, we also had a Bull Huss each. We then got tired of the doggies and moved over to the mark we originally planned to move to and were soon into more doggies but Mark had a Ballan Wrasse and I had a Cookoo Wrasse and I then pulled in our only bream of the day at about 1.5lb (another 2 new species) Weather from about 11.00am was great, Mark was great company especially his story about a club member who had his VHF upside down and wondered why there was no traffic on 06 (90!), I didn't believe him but it was certainly funny. Fresh coffee and bacon sandwiches and a few beers at the pub ended a nice day out Regards and thanks for the invite Mark Topeless Moore

  16. I've heard that eye of toad with lizard tail soaked in hogwart stired anti-clock wise during a full moon............
  17. Paul Jennings and I tried out the magnet and feel that we did draw fish to our swim, only dogs and pout (and a nice bonus wrasse) I made up a dropper from a bird feeder and with a litle help from Adam fitted a lead base of about 1.5lb. It seemed to work ok but seemed a little flimsy when forcing in the semi frozen gunk. Lesson: Don't drop it down on braid, especially when the boat starts to swing in the wind and gets tangled with the lines Doh. I think I will have a look at the pipe option. Freeze it in a pipe with plenty of holes, wrap with cling film (thats the bait not me!) and freeze. Make an outer sleeve with holes that the frozen pipe fits into, lead bottom and just drop the frozen tube into the outer sleeve and over the side (with thicker cord) I'll let you know how it goes Groundbaiterless Moore
  18. Just think, That lovely white, clean boat will be covered in worm juice and cuttle ink in a few weeks. Congrats Big boatless Moore
  19. Paul, As you crewed for me on the last comp, I can crew for you then if the boat is not ready for Sunday I will make sure mine is preped for Christchurch Goodluck with the trial on Saturday Gordon
  20. I have been watching the good weather and light tides all week desperately looking for reason to get off work and finaly, Saturday was looking OK. As Sunday looked off, the FPO was please that it was Saturday and a phone call to my mate in Cornwall, scrounged some bait off Adam. 8.00am at Kimeridge, a gentle NW saw us heading out for a wreck to see if we could latch onto a few pollock and conger. There was a little bit of tide still running and the first drift saw my mate with a 4lb pollock on board that went back to grow bigger. 10 minutes later 2 dive boats with about 20 odd divers were over the side and in the way. Half hearted appology from on eof the skippers but they were gone in about 45 minutes so we set about trying to anchor up. Well it took about 5 or 6 goes, including anchoring the wreck, (the alderny ring and cable ties eventually pulling it free) The first few goes saw plenty of decent sized pout and doggies over the side, but on the last anchor and my perseverence with the cuttle fish saw a 25lb conger in the boat. During the next hour I landed another 4 between 12 and 20lb. All put up a tremendous scrap and I was happy as Larry. I felt sorry for my mate as he lost all 3 of the conger he latched onto. Lots of lessons on the day. Make sure you have a saved track or a way point to go back to a new launch point. We made a big L shape on the way back. Don't put too many cable ties on the trip, experiment as you will be supprised just how well they hang on. You only need enough to keep you anchored. Experiment on the distance you have to go past the fishing spot so that when you anchor your boat ends up over the boat. This took me a few goes. I also got well mixed up with the plotter / tide orientation that didn't help. Can we make that the next training session? Got back home happy and knackered at 7.30pm. Cleaned all the boat and fishing tackle, picked up the worms for Sunday and preped my plaice gear, sandwich and bed foe 10. 5am breakfast, round Adam's for 5.45 and out on the shambles with Adam letting me catch all the plaice. What a weekend. Bed by 9.00pm Come on you bream ( and conger!!) Hope you didn't get bored with the ramblings All the best (thanks Adam) The conger catcher Moore
