Friday off so decided to see if I could bag any Tope. A couple of tips from Martin and Charlie and 8 o'clock saw Cushdy slipping out of Kimmeridge on glass smooth water heading east. A mile later stopped for mackeral and there were stacks. On to the mark and tried drifting a while as the tide was slow (missed good anchor down time ) Anchored up and it wasn't long before the bites came, missed the first, then a 5lb thorny (I think) then another about 9 and a bit. Then missed a real rod shaker . The tide got too strong then and I was struggling to hold the bottom and a quite strong westerly blew up, must have been about a 4. Decided to move in to Dancing Ledge but had no marks and still the wind was playing silly buggers. Tried a bit more shelter in Cadmans Pool but they were not having it. The wind dropped a bit so decided to drift a bit further out and stuck it out until I bagged a 3lb 12oz Bass. No tope, a bit lumpy out there, but it's better than work PS is it a thornback

Hi All, Great day out with Paul, Started out in Christchurch harbour just after 9.00am, and I don't what the local authority call a slipway repair but i would now say that its worse now than it was before. At low tide there is about a 9" drop off and Pauls trailer grounded out, luckily we had enough depth to push Neo off. I think someone needs to write on behalf of the club. Anyway 1/2 an hour saw 8 mullett over the gunnels and on our way down the harbour and back on went the waders so I could push Neo again to get her off the shallows. Oh by the way Sam I think they were thin lips, then again they could have been blennies!!! It was a bit choppy but drifting for Wrasse then anchored for bream and also getting our quota of Macki on our baits! It was getting a bit quiet so decided to head over to Xray. And you know how it is, get to your mark, then spend about 10 - 15 minutes manuvering over that slight bump on your sounder, drop the anchor, pull it back up, try again etc etc. Then there is the Paul Dorr method, a meticulous skipper..... Oh this looks Ok in line with a couple of other boats, anchor gone, baits over the side. Well I'm converted, we had a haul, rays, doggies, bream, Gurnard ( and a 3lb beauty that kicked back all the way up) we also had Tope. A last minute move also saw the last couple of bream to max out. A great day when I learned loads about navigation Thanks Paul Oh yes I had 98 points Paul was that why you left wrasse before my quota

Charlie You take me Tope fishing and I will take you mullet fishing as often as you want.
-
Hi Charlie Paul D and I are out on Neo tomorrow from Christchurch Good luck everyone (but not as good as ours!)
-
Yes I need to do the course as well. Can we get a bulk booking?
-
I think you need to come out and catch a few mullet young man. They out fight and have more staminer lb for lb than any other uk fish. My 7lb thick lipped took over 15 minutes to get in the net on 5lb hook length. My point is they are as different as a blond ray is to a small eyed ray
-
thats like having a Ray record! definately one for the club meeting as Rich said
-
Plaicemat, why does the glue take a long time to cure just because your dense?
-
as the 4lb club mullet record is probably a thick lipped, Can I claim the 2lb14oz thin lipped I caught this evening in Christchurch Harbour as the clubs thin lipped record. I was on my own but I will check my scales for accuracy Regards Gordon

Congratulations James & Chris We have 3 daughters, and it doesn't matter hour many hours sleep you get, you will both look back and talk about how wonderful it was. Congratulations Gordon
