Hi All, My name is Terry, and I have started coming down your neck of the woods for the last couple of years so I thought why not join a club down there, you never know. I trail a Warrior 165 mostly with either a cousin or a couple of regular fishing mates. Retired early in 2006 and never looked back. Will always try to get out as often as possible, but as always depends on her indoors. Looking forward to meeting some of you some day. Tight lines, Terry.

Hi All, Not been on your site for a while due to all sorts of things going on , but all that changes now . Trailing my boat down with my cousin Tony, to Xchurch on Friday 3rd for 6 nights and hopefully 5 days fishing the Ledge , so if there is anyone out during our stay, give me a shout on the water (call sign "Peggy Too") and I'd be happy to buddy up. Tight Lines Terry.

Hi, my name is Mike and I and my partner moved down here last year, when I retired. I have been a course angler for 50years and used to own my own ponds, but due to an arm injury, could not keep up the maintainance, and so had to sell. I dont't intend giving up course angling, but I want to learn sea fishing, but due to my injury, distance casting is out. So I am on the lookout for a small boat and a good club where I can meet people and learn, and hopefully have a good time. It seems i have found the club ( yours ), and I hope to be at your next meeting, and look forward to seeing you then Mike Stephenson

Thanks again all , I do always carry an anchor just in case but perhaps I would be better off with a smaller or a different type of anchor (I have a fishermans anchor about 14" x 20"). Do you think a trip line might be the answer? It sounds like the fishfinder might be the first thing to look at, my problem is that I don't have any power supply on board. I know nothing about boat electrics, what sort of battery would I need to take on board or can you get fishfinders with their own power supply? Also would I need to fit a transducer permanently to the boat, I know you can get hand held or floating transducers, but they wouldn,t be much use for navigating as I assume you would need to be stationary to use them, right? You can also see that I,m a novice at posting on forums ( i can,t work out how to include the emoticons) should I be adding this reply to my original thread or would it be better as a new thread?? Thanks again, just off to fish on the groyne at Hengistbury now, I shall try fishing closer in this time for the deeper channel. Regards Steve.

Huge thanks PJ, Charlie, Dan and Duncan for all the great advice, it has confirmed my gut feelings about the limitations of my small dinghy. As you say it seems that the best thing I can do is to join the club and talk to you "old hands" to get the benefit of your hard gained experience, although Thursday evenings are a bit difficult for me, are there any other days/nights when members meet up? Its nice to know I'm getting some of the basic stuff right though as I do always wear my life jacket, use wind guru and the Bournemouth surf reports ( I also have a look at the surf cams ), but I know how quickly things can change out there and I don't want to be racing the weather back to safe harbour with a 6hp - theres a good chance I'd lose! I shall be checking out easytide and metcheck. Your spot on with the anchor retrieval Dan, we got it stuck several times around the groyne, and if I'm out there on my own I have to fish on the drift as I daren't use it. That was one of the reasons I was thinking about a fish finder to see if it could help me avoid this, and a GPS to help me relocate any good marks I discover. I suppose I have been lucky so far but I see what you mean about the problems for a small dinghy caused by some of the bigger motor cruisers, especially if its a bit choppy already. Thanks again for the advice and hope to get a chance to chat to you all soon. Steve.

Hi all, I'm looking for advice on how I can keep safe and improve my chances of catching anything. I moved down here a few years ago and have done a bit of fishing from the shore, Hengistbury Head Groyne mainly, and really fancied getting out on the water. I have bought a small Foreland fibreglass dinghy (12'6'' x 5'3'' x 2' 1'' moulded depth, just about get the trailer down the side of the house) with an Evinrude 6hp outboard, which I have been out on a few times with very limited success - one garfish and one mackerel in 8 hours fishing. I would like to get out to fish the ledge, weather permitting, and to find a few marks within easy reach of the harbour, so I'd really appreciate any advice on where I can get the best weather forecast information - particularly the wind force and sea state - as it can get a bit uncomfortable out there if the wind gets up and it gets a bit choppy. Also if anyone has advice on what bits of electronics would be most useful, fish finder, GPS etc. (there are no electrics on the boat at the moment and no enclosed stowage so maybe portable is the only realistic option). Thanks for reading this and look forward to hearing from you as I regularly read the forums and know just how much knowledge you lot have about every aspect of boats and fishing.

I shall look forward to it. 'Has to be better than catching small green vegetables all the time from the shore. Huge amounts of weed around at the moment. Forgot to say - my name is Andy Smith but I answer to most things. Andy

Hello all, another newbie to the site and certainly to small boat fishing. I'm a friend of Paul's through AFC Bournemouth; a long time fisherman but not really in the sea. Pleased to be here though. Paul's scared the **** out of me a few times already with his boatmanship, if that's the right term, but I'm keen. I want to catch bream - haven't done so since I was a kid. So I guess I offer myself as a crew member with zero knowledge to any poor fool that'll have me. As I said initially, blame Paul D

If you aren't fussed about a lid, you can get the barrels at Hall and Woodhouse in Blandford, they have the solid top which needs cutting off, but you can turn the top upside down and use it as a lid. Last ones I got were re freebies though they sometimes make a small charge.

Hello, my names Pete and I have tried to register an interest in joining the club but the link to download a membership form is not working. I do not currently own a boat, but am considering buying one and wanted to get a feel for it all. Do I need a boat to join? There are no phone numbers I can call to get hold of anyone either, HELP! Thanks Pete

Thanks guys for your help, i'm going to see to see Tony at Select Marine this Saturday, he seems helpful and price is good. I don't know if this message has got to all who replied to my original post, forums are new to me, so i don't know if i'm replying to all or only the last guy, Rob?

Hi guys, i need to change the impellor in my outboard pre season as it's past its best. Got the new manual in the post this week, vague to say the least, so i'm looking for an independent dealer in the Poole area who knows Mariners. If i can avoid using main dealers then all the better, unless anyone knows different, as they're expensive. We're talking mid 90's 2 stroke 60HP. Any help very welcome!

Hi guys, i'm looking for a clean and reliable long shaft outboard, to use as an auxillary. Any make or model considered, but would prefer Mariner/Mercury or Japanese. Any HP 4-6. Thanks Jimbo

A couple of things you might want to consider. First, mooring at Christchurch are cheap and appear to offer good value. But what we found when we worked it out, most of the time the water is not deep enough to get out if the boat out of the estauary if the draft is .75 meters which is not a lot. Matters are complicated by waves from the South sloshing over the sandspit which carry silt and block the estuary mouth which runs East to West. Additionally part of Christchurch are very shallow. If you leave the boat in the water it tends to accumulate a lot of weed. The cost of getting it it out every month for a power wash is quite high. About

Thanks for the reply Brian. We are considering making some temporary trim tabs to see if it makes the difference. If you are selling yours please let either me or Darrell know. Cheers, Darren.
