Hi, Just to bring this back to the top as Darrell is still having trouble with planing...... We were out playing with the prop/whale tail and engine trim over the weekend and nothing we did made much difference. We have tried hanging two large people over the front and even that didn't pop it onto the plane! Current symptoms: Engine trimmed in to max (pin placed in closest hole to transom) Engine revs to 4200rpm when excelerating in gear, front bow rises, rear squats and that is it! It feels as though the engine still needs to be trimmed in some more but there is no movement left. All appears to be original so if it should plane everything appears to be as it should be. We did get it to rev to 4600rpm at max revs with two people hanging of the bow but it was no nearer to planing..... As we are making peak revs at full throttle we are really not sure where to go from here, any suggestions? Cheers, Darren.

Hi All Hi its Craig here from Burnham Boat Club and to just you know that I have e-mailed Adam with our fixture list for 2009, you are more than welcome to visit us on any day with our organised comps. With regard to the Competition I have organized at Poole this is an away day comp but if you want it as a club against club comp we have a few months to get it sorted out. I hope your grounds have been productive as our water are fishing atrociously at the moment, but I am out tommorow to see if its improved. Keep in touch Craig Willis

The Volvo agent has come back with this theory. The facts were that the bolts holding on the drive plate were sheared which was said to be caused because they may not have been fully tightened in manufacture. But if this were the case, then I would have expected to hear some clanking noises when the boat was under power which we didn't at any point. What I am now wondering is could the reverse have happened? The bolts were overtightened, then in frosty conditions, they contracted and broke. Immediately, before this happen the boat was on racks @ Cobbs Quay - and there was some severe overnight frost during that time.

Hi everyone, Please could i have some advice on where to go around christchrcuh ledge to do some drifting. eg. where to start and to finish....... thanks for help...
-
thanks for everything guys......im going to get a 30l barrel with a 360gph rule bilge pump for the inlet and a outlet hole nearer the top and a tap at the bottom to drain at the end of the day. Only problem is as the tank will be portable, i want to double the bilge pump up as a bilge pump for my boat so i will just put it in the back of the boat and it will drain through the detachable hose from the barrel. So i will need a valve on the barrel so water cannot come out when nothing is attached or the bilge pump is turned off but i can easily detach the hose from the the outside to use the pump for the water in the back of my boat. I hope you understand this!!! thanks for helping me everyone!!!!!

cheers guys im going to pick up a 30l drum just a few questions. how high do i put the bilge pump hose and how high do i put the outlet hose? also how high do you fill the drum when in use? i also wont be able to use the bilge when on the move will the mackies be ok without being pumped for 5 minutes? thanks.....

that sounds decent but will i have to run it of my 12v battery? how can you target the joeys instead of the bigger ones would 5 jeoys live it that?

Hi all, I was told to ask here for some advice if you dont mind. i have a 4.2m rib and i want to do some live baitng in the summer for bass but i dont have room to fit a tank with the airator to keep them alive. i dont know whether any other small boat owners have had this problem or if someone knows how to get around it? Thanks very much.......

We have just been advised that the drive plate in the gearbox is broken , so we have no transmission. Very luckily while under guarantee. Does anyone know what might have caused this? For example using the engine to pull an anchor up...??? There were no noises or sign of anything evidently wrong until we strated, cast off and found we were drifting towards a Sunseeker

Its possibly a nightmare job for the engineer too. It sounds like its a fuel control problem and without special tools, its probably not easy to figure out exactly what is going on in there..... The shame of it is you have to take the engine out at and send it half way round the world at great expense.

Try ringing Marine Options at Cobbs Quay, they should know. 01202 677755.

Hi, I have recently had to part with my Warrior 165 and need to downsize to a large(ish) dinghy/openboat to fish my local rivers for Bass etc. I had located an ideal boat but before I could make a move it had been sold. The boat was a 'Bass Angler 14+' which is a 14ft dinghy made by a company named 'Safe Boats Ltd' based in Poole but unfortunately I have had no success in trying to locate or find contact details of the company. I understand that the company may well be a 'one man band' who only occasionally makes such boats. I am hoping that someone within the Poole Bay Small Boat Angling Club may possibly know of the company or the gentleman that makes the boats and could pass on their/his details to help me make some equiries. Any help that anyone could give me would be very greatfully appreciated. Tony

Saturday morning was perfect, due to a combination of work and poor weekend weather it was the first trip since the end of September. The sun was shining and a light northerly wind. We headed out of Poole out into the bay and found a rocky patch. A dozen dogfish 2 small whiting and a 17lb cod, a day to remember and a flat calm for the return into Poole.

I like the way with this knot, the tag points up. Someone showed me another variant of it for Cod rigs....what they did was to wind the line around the hook under the eye, then back through the eye. (Yes it is a form of whipping). What they then also did was effectively use the same whipping knot for another hook half way up the leader.... Once I had tried this a few times, I reckon its faster than any other knot I have used for the same kind of rig...

Jim If you can get it to plane around the M25 and park it at the London Boat Show I might take you up on your offer !

Hi Because of the angle and shape of the engine splash well , a standard plastic 22l fuel tank will fit under the engine splash well ( the opposite side of the battery ) when the tank is positioned sideways. So the hull is supplied with tank retaining straps for the tank to be placed sideways on the opposite side to battery. Picture 11 in the gallery on the website shows the tank correctly fitted in the standard position strapped sideways. Many people would want to run twin tanks , so we did think it might be a good idea to make the cockpit drain well large enough to fit a plastic tank as another placement option. Customers who want to use a tank in the middle postion,we fit a removable tray which lifts the fuel tank up much higher in the cockpit drain well which keeps it well clear of any water. We wouldnt recommend placing a fuel tank in this position if an electrical bilge pump was fitted. Whilst the angle and width of the engine splash well is not perfect for storing fuel tanks, its width does give the option of running twin engines if required. With a 22 litre tank in flat steady planing conditions you can expect to get fuel economy of 1.5 to 2 miles per litre , so a single tank alone gives an excellent range. Also in reply to the previous post, we will gladly offer a Poole Angling Club member some form of discount as it would be great to get a boat down at your club. We can also make a package much cheaper by fitting a good quality used outboard to a new hull as an affordable option. Regards SML

Hi All Thanks Paul for allowing us some coverage. Just to clarify, the Solent Fisher is 17 ft long, has 60 sq foot of cockpit space which is huge for a boat of this size. Hull weight is aprox 350 / 400 kg (plus engine) which gives great performance and easy planing even with a 40 HP, any choice of engine can be fitted, the Susuki Four Stroke EFI is my personal choice, a superb engine available at a similar price to the E-Tec. It can also now be supplied as an open med style boat offering even more fishing space , new pictures available of this model can be seen at: http://www.solentfisher.co.uk/ The hull actually has a very good front V section with softening spray rails and is not a traditional flat dory hull at all, this can be seen from the gallery pictures. So combined with its length, this will be able to comfortably cope with most force 3 to 4 coastal conditions when planing at a sensible speed. This hull shape does have the advantage of being able to throttle back and remain on the plane at quite low speeds if needed if the wave chop builds up a bit. With most fishing done at anchor or drifting, it does offer a superb stable and large fishing space for a boat of this size and its cost ! The boat is superbly built by Solent Ribs Ltd who have an envious reputation for building high quality bespoke ribs. Engines are supplied and fitted by the sister company Fairweather Marine Ltd who are Hampshires best known outboard service centre and again have a reputation for excellent service. Thanks again
