Hi all Im a regular beach fisherman but have recently aquired a boat first time for me on the water. this forum seems really friendly and informative so i thought id register. anyway catch report for today went out to southbourne directly in front of lift about 1 mile out, only had one set of feathers [which my mate was using] so he had about 12 maccys on a carp rod i had nothing anyway that carried on till we seemed to have drifted out about another mile. we then decided to move mainly because we were in a flotilla of yachts, but secondly cos i was blanking anyway we headed back to hengistbury head groyne ,bout half mile south went quiet for a while then my mate was into the maccys again{on anchor?} then it was my turn a treble shot of maccy[on my sons tele float rod]3 pound bass 5 bream only to a pound and half 10 doggies between us. what an amazing day .

Have taken 6M boat round to Chapmans Pool on first trip out of poole harbour. The races around the headlands were interesting!!!! had to take it quite slow and got very wet at times. Are there any good marks in that area worth noting? I hope to get out again after half term week and head that way cheers Malc

Gnasher - I used your mark The outboard lifted out of the water trying to get the anchor out, a trip boat was about 20yards away - so retrieval became a matter of pride! Fortunately had a mate with me who was prepared to lose his fingers. The swell really picks up on the ledge which makes life interesting. Will be tripping next time - also nearly lost it on the patches! Live and learn. It was a great fish for the first time. Been reading up on rigs etc for next time cheers Malc

Thanks for the offer Gordon. As you can see. I'm not looking to tread on anybodys toes.

Hi my name is Terry and I'm in swindon (Terryswindon). Nil points for originality. I've just registered on the forum after speaking to Tom Bettle (Said I could use his name). I'm looking for a place on a boat for Sunday 20th. Basically, I go out from Poole on a regular basis with seafishingpoole (Bob Watton, and Ron on Sea Tradar) on a charter basis. Got all my own gear, teeth, hair, and transport. Fully house trained. Wouldn't class myself as an expert. But can take orders, and more that willing to chip in on costs, clean boat, help in any way. I've Emailed for an application form to join the club, and intend to follow it up. On this basis. Are there any takers. Email terry.callahan12@ntlworld.com Thanks for looking! Terry C.

After a brief half day around poole patch a couple of weeks ago we managed to get a full day out. Headed out to christchurch ledge and found anothoer 4-5 boats there, I caught my first decent fish ever - a 2.5lb bream. We caught nothing for about 2 hrs and then headed to poole patch and spent another unsuccessful few hours before heading home. Almost lost my anchor twice - need to set a trip, also need to look at bait/set up etc to improve. Good day out, could have been a bit warmer Thanks for advice from all here cheers Malc

Went down to the boat this morning to check that all was well, to find boat broken into. The fist attempt was to cut through the padlock which failed due to stainless steel construction, so they ripped the hasp off. The dock office confirmed this was number 5 recently, please be aware and it maybe prudent to review security measures.

We have just posted a message to all boat owners, helmsmen and helmswomen and crews not to mention the fishermen and fisherwomen of course! It's in the Lounge section of the forum so if you are interested in having any photos taken of your boat then have a look. Hope to see you on the water soon.

We have a Jeanneau Merry Fisher 655 and we want to learn to catch fish! We do some fishing sometimes but have never caught anything yet. However, our prime reason for owning a boat is that we run a marine photography business and we are out every weekend taking pictures of all boats (not just big yachts). We would love to come and spend the day with your club in Poole Bay when a few of you are out and about and take lots of pictures. We then post the pictures on our website and people can buy them if they like them. I have spoken to your chairman, Martin, today and he suggested I put this notice up so you can contact us if you are interested. We are moored at the Lymington Yacht Haven (but are very happy to come over to Poole) and our website address is www.photopirates.co.uk All contact details can be seen there. Happy fishing! Patrick and Clare

Finally got the boat in the water. I had decided to do essential in maintenance in April this year working on the basis that April is always cold and wet and not worth being on the water!! The wind was cold first thing with no sun to take the edge off it. We tried a few drifts in the swash, to no avail and headed out to join the bream flotilla party. The bream were feeding well and we caught 30 upto about 1.25 lb on very light tackle, all were returned - pound for pound they are fantastic scrappers.

Thanks for that, it is somewhere to start. I think I am at Mitchells as well - Karnic seems very good, had a rib in solent for a while and it was a bit like a 4x4 for the school run but this one seems to be more like a proper boat and has somewhere for the kids/wife to lie down. They appear to be well put together but only been out for 8 hrs sofar, and the furthest was down to Chapmans Pool cheers Malcolm

Hi, I'm still new to the waters and fish out of Christchurch, so still exploring different areas and having fun doing it! Out of interest I know most members tend to target certain fish.. i gather bream is popular at the moment , but I would be interested to hear if members have caught any of the more unusual or unexpected speices of fish from the area in general as i'am also interested in the type of diversity of fish that appear in the area. Was out yesterday exploring Xchurch ledge and caught pollock, garfish, wrasse - no bream - but was still a great day out. Cheers CharlieH

gaffa we run a marina 60hp 4 stroke and last year we had the same prob as you .being on a wet mooring well out it was almost imposible to flush ,and there was long periods betwen useage sometimes. it alarmed just after leaving the moorings, yet we had the tale tale but it was very warm. hearing about salt tex we got the boat to the jetty tok out the thermostat and i trimed the enjine up and put a plastic dustbin over the gear box and lowered it down.i then 1/2 filled the bin with fresh water and a strong mix of salt ex started the engine had very poor tale tale ran till the engine was warm (not long) stopped to cool and then repeated it again and again.after about 3 hours or more we had a good flow. all seemed well .on the next trip just rounded the needles and the alarm sounded again so we anchord fished for a couple of hours and came home on less reves 3500 and got back ok. the boat is now off the mooring . ive been told that it could be the o ring under the power head,or a bad case of internal corrision.and to expect a bill of

Bought the boat last year, a merry fisher 655 'Blue sky', didn't do much proper fishing last year as we are novices but things are looking up for this year, went out on good friday just to get the sea legs back, tried to fish just outside of swanage but had no real luck then when the boys from 'Aqua Fresh' suggested that we joined them over at christchurch ledge the pick was up and we were gone. On arrival there it was clear from the number of fishing boats, that this was the place to be, did take a bream that day but only stayed for an hour. Now with in no I returned again on sataruday 14th with my sons Karl and Lewis and a friend bret. we got to the boat at about 10:30 and after fueling up and attaching some rod holders we were making our way out of poole habour. At around 12:00 approach christchurch legde and out of the mist the same tell tail sign as last time a fleet of fishing boats all anchored up with more fishing rods then I care to remember. With a rod each and all set up on bottom rigs with spoons and last summers mackeral bits and some squid was put in the sun to defrost for the bait dropper thanks for the tip from (BigMac and Large fries). Into bream in ten minutes followed quickly by the doggies. Overall not a bad day with 6 bream 4 doggies and a wrasse, left at the turn of the tied so not to lose our pick, need to get a yanker! This is more like it, should have been doing it last year.
