  1. firstly hi dan we have thought about bass stocks the best thing we came up with was only one bass counted and only one to the scales. also to increase the minimum size to say 60cm or maybe more cos anything less is not likely to win. how does all that sound

  6. a big thank you to you all for a fantastic day. alot of hard work and time was put in arrangeing nov 12th open event. from bacon rolls to sausage sandwiches. i hope you dont mind i have pasted the results on my web site. seeing as we managed to get 13th place with a giant Mackerel, and 14th place with a doggie and not forgetting stumpie the conger eel who narrowly missed heavest fish. who knows if he had not got into a fight with a great white and not had the bottom part of his tale bitten off lol see you all at the next meeting once a again thankyou from the poole bay doggies regards bob cryer (eborman)
  7. Thanks for all the hard work you put in to run the comp i am sure dave my skipper would say the same,he still has the scars to prove he was there, notice i did not laugh till later. It was the first time i used a can of instant plaster spray from TCP worked well saved all that blood over your nice clean deck.
  8. Hi all, i have a number of out of date flares which have been premanently kept in a sealed waterproof container. They are only spares in addition to my Inshore pack which are well in date. my question is whether or not old flares become unstable. I do know of course the procedure if i should wish to destroy them. (wont wait til next fireworks night). thanks, Stephen.

  11. Please accept my apologies if this is already known or put up in the wrong part of the forum but I thought I'd put up details of a useful 'pocket' guide for anyone out there, who like me is an absolute novice when it comes to fishing, and has probably used up all their goodwill asking 'your mate' to help with setting up a rig whilst they're trying to get on with the business end of fishing The book is called 'Fishing Knots & Rigs' by Dick Lewers (ISBN 1741 10196-4)

  15. Thanks for the welcome Interesting to know there are a few other Shetland owners in the club and there is a Christchurch Mob. There are some very nice fishing boats moored near mine. I'll look out for the yellow and red flags and read up on Cod fishing. I'm particularly interested in how adventurous i be with my 570, what are it's limitations etc. Got lots of other questions, I better get posting! How are you getting on with your Family Four Charlie? What sort of sea/wind strength do you think it handle safely?
  16. ho well at least we mite get some of our gear back.
  17. Good news The Weymouth 2 have been cleared of all wrong doing, to celebrate they have had a large HUMBLE PIE made. Anyone fancy a slice!!!!!
  18. Headed out south of the NAB early Sunday morning and put the hook down in about 110 feet of water... Quite a swell pushing through as a result of Saturdays stiff breeze, but reasonably slow, long and not uncomfortable. 10 minutes went by without a sniff, then first up, it's a COD! 10lb, followed by conger of 35lb (est.) to my mate, who had to wind another of 25lb (est.) immediate after his first. Quick phone call to Paul D to brag about the COD, but had to cut it short as those pesky fish refused to stop biting... Another COD, 6lb and another phone call to Paul D. The ebb tide continued to give good sport for a couple of hours with mainly strap congers with the odd 20lb+ fish thrown in. Flood tide killed the fishing completey for the next 3 hours, with just the odd Pout and very rare doggy. We were going to up anchor and try further inshore, but the decision to stay put for a couple more hours paid off... four more congers to 25lb, two thornbacks to 7lb and a splendid 8lb bass. I love fishing... and winding Paul D about catching COD. PS. There are photo's but have to get them off of my mates phones.

    Hi All

Hi all I'm Simon, just got round to registering but have been reading the forums and picking up a few tips from you guys for a while. I'm a bit of a beginner, only got my first boat late this season, an old Shetland 570. Got her moored in Christchurch near the quay. Done a bit of course fishing in the past and am keen to get into sea fishing. Haven
  20. hi bootlegger quite few years back a freind of mine brought a new bare hull and deck from a add in a mag.same as yours but it had a blue hull and white decks. i said that he would never finish it .but he did he fitted it with a 2.8 d.i engine from a transit . i whent out on it a few times ,and was suprised how well it went they are nice boats to fish from too . im sure you will be pleased with it ..
  21. the trouble is it takes something like this to make you realize that you cant leave anything onboard.but we use a small dingy to get out to the boat and us being big blokes, plus a couple of tanks of fuel, bait and tackle ect the thing was nearly under water lol. still could have been worst the boat and engine could have been gone.or sunk...
  22. Hi Phil, I was in a similar position tou yourself but having a 3year old and 6 year old and needing to be able to use the boat as a family boat plus as the misus believes fishing as an added bonus (myself it was the opposite way round) I went for a 2nd hand Warrior 175 much more room than the others you've mentioned but on par with the Rader 18 (cuddy version anything else susceptible to wind), Really is great Boat easy to launch for the 2 of us and recover, safe for the Kids perviously youngest didn't like boats now falls to sleep on it, Honda 90 fitted but would prefer 115 fuel consumption is brilliant very frugal compared to old Mercury 90. You can pick 2nd 175 for
