  1. We tried this morning to weigh the boat. (i can do that at work). Boat (550 kg) with 2 chairs and 2 piedestals (50kg ?), trailer (360 kg), Suzuki (162 kg). All in all that would be around 1122 kg. It did in fact weigh 1343 kg !!!!! I think the boat is much heavier than the estimated 550 kg, and that might be reason why it not goes as fast as i had hoped !. Onslow
  2. Thanks for the help I haven't tried trimming it out as use the trim gauge supplied to set level of trim but will try this weekend. Unfortuntaely not local to poole but will be aiming for a trip down shortly live on the Wirral by the Mersey so propeller revolutions no good will contact local Honda agent but was hoping someone had 1st hand experience with the 175 seems to be loads of Info on 165 though.
  3. We will get out in his boat on Wednesday. Then i can see it for myself. I
  4. We are both trailering our boats so both hulls are clean. The Suzuki feels more powerfull, especially under accelleration. But 1,5 knots is not much with an advantage of 20 hp.
  5. I just cant get my Warrior 165 with a Suzuki DF 70 to run more than 30 knots - with 2 adults and a full 25 litres tank. Ive hoped for 32-33 knots. The prob is 13,5X15 and rpm is 5900-6000. A friend of mine has got a Warrior too ( with a Honda 50hp) and the topspeed is 28,5 knots under same conditions. 20 hp should give more than 1,5 knots !!! I just dont understand it ! Onslow
  6. Hi, Is ther anyone out there that runs a Warrior 175 with a Honda 90 the problem I have is what size of prop should I use it currently has a prop with the markings 3x1325x17R I presume this is a 17"prop, I'm only getting 25Knots at approx 4800rpm sea condition were ok a bit of a chop and 2 adults plus two little kids about 2-3 stone each and no gear. I've been told to expect 30Knots does anyone else have any figures for what they get engine does not seem to rev beyond 5000rpm?
  7. great policy Adam - I'm the same with my boat, although for me under 5 are the takeable ones.
  8. Sorry, I thought that my post was in context, and may have been useful to forum members.

  14. Hi I have just purchased a Quicksilver 580 moored at Cobbs. I have been fishing for over 40 years but am new to this size of boat and the area. Is anyone interested in joining me for midweek trips from mid september? Im usually free Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. Ideally I am looking for someone experienced in this size of boat and with knowledge of marks in the area. Initially no charge but with a look towards contributing to costs. Regards Max
  15. ta for the replys. seems like a aux might be a waste of time as i'd need 15hp then i'd have probs with lifting on and off as the boat is moored. main engine is 120hp diesel so should'nt have probs.dave
  16. anyone know what size auxilary engine would push a 21 foot boat along. not expecting anysort of speed just for safety, .. dave
  17. mark, Hope ur getting on with the quicksilver okay. (wot a bargain u got) looks alot better on the new trailer. i'll pop the panel down somewhen in the week. i picked the binliner (bayliner) up friday, should be nice - fingers crossed!!
  18. the new size will be 40cm - still below the spawning size - but still good news as its a step forward. for fixed nets the new mesh size will be 100mm (up from 90mm I think?). begins in April 2007 and reviewed by 2010 to go to 45cms Studies by CEFAS have shown that less than 10% of the stock go outside the 6 mile, and with warmer winters more and more fish are staying closer inshore (no need to go offshore to get higher temperatures during the winter). Also bass are very territorial going back each year to the same grounds, so any fish taken deplete the area stock for a long time. At last, finally. RSA has managed to change an MLS through good sound arguments about the science and the economics. The defra summary of responses and RIA make very interesting reading as has been said. Just think what could be done with more RSA support, speaking with one voice.
  19. You can catch them at different areas of the island but there are some special places where it's quite deep and you can catch the bigger ones. Here a link you can see some of the specimen caught from the shore and boat. http://www.fishingandhuntingsafaris.com/gallery-fishing.asp
  20. Plaicemat: I'm In Mauritius! Tom: Thanks for the valuable info about the rod. It should be O.K. I'll test it tomorrow and see how it behaves. The fix spool is not the ordinary type fix spool. The fin-nor is for medium boat fishing! the fin-nor fishes effciently with 5kg-6kg drag. My daiwa caldia kix which is only a 1500 size reel deliver 4kg of smooth drag! For Tuna Jigging 7kg is o.k. whereas for popping you use 8-10kg+ on a boat. Since I'll be using it from the shore, I'll use it with 5kg and increasing gradually if the fish decides to make a run into the reef. I'm planning to buy an Okuma VS-80 but I'll be upgrading as soon as I travel. The big game fix spool will deliver 66lb of drag i.e 30kg. Realistically 18kg. There are a few reels in the daiwa, accurate and shimano range fix spool which are capable to do so. There are a few from others as well which will be up for the jobs like in the tica and ryobi range. JB.
  21. They will be around the 20lb mark up to 50-80lb mark. I don't know yet but that is the sort of fish that have been taken before. I'll be fishing about 10-20lb drag and will be tossing poppers of 100g +. I'm curious to know up to what range of weight can a 30lb rod realistically cast and how many drag it could take. The rod now is rung for multiplier, I was planning to use a trinidad 30 but I have just ordered a fixspool. I think it is safer and easier to pop with a Fix spool. Why all these question? I want to know if it's worth it for me to strip it down and re rung it for fix spool usage or will it be better for me to spend 400 quids on a popping rod!
  22. Bob: Giant trevallies! Plaicemat: Not if you are targetting Giant trevallies!
  23. Hi Bob, The info I'm looking for is a general overview about the rod. I'm going to use it as a heavy duty spinning rod casting popper of 100g+ Cheers JB
  24. I have the 165 also with the DF70 and know what your going through there! we fitted the smart tabs with the 60lb actuators and had exactly the same problems of reduced top speed. We got there in he end with nearly maximum angle (just slightly raised) and the middle pressure setting. What suprised me is how little adjustment made masses of difference. I have quite a few pics if any more info is required. Also told that where possible remove the actuators and store inside in a dry environment, bit hard on a moring but easy if you tow the boat about. Hope this may help
  25. Hi lads, I got an old reel and a boat rod. Abu Commodore Black max 30lb class, length 6'11 ft... 5 rings+tip, short butt which fits the tip on a plastic screw fitting. Can anyone give me some more info about the rod? Cheers, JB.
