  1. Castrol Pyroplex Blue is superb for wheel bearings, available in tubes as well. Some good advice on here, the brakes do generate quite a bit of heat even when all is well, I used my trailer while waiting for shoes to arrive without brakes and the hubs were stone cold after an hours drive, so yes binding brake problems I can see being the start of wheel bearing troubles! well worth checking before the launch. Sean,
  2. thanks
  3. Corky, would be good to get your opinion - my mobile 07917-085-120. The service covered some new parts and all looked good.....
  4. Corky - he's suggested not enough oil in the fuel, and its seized..but he suggest it would cost
  5. My Tohatsu 25hp has taken a nose dive after a service, and its probably not worth repairi so I've been told (by the person who did the service). I'd like to get a second opinion, but don't want to spend to much money on it, assuming I need to try and source another one. Can you recommend anybody whose good with engines and works at a resonable price? Getting another Tohatsu would allow me to keep the electrics etc...do you know of any good second hand ones? or alternatively any other ones with cables for steering and selectric start? thanks...
  6. Hi, I head in and out of Xchuch now and then.. one thing to be aware of is they lift the navigation bouys around end of October/ begin November without too much warning (no doubt the more experienced on the forum can confirm or correct this.. grateful for more info). Can be a 'little' surprising if you not ready for it and are trying to decide which route to follow on your plotter! Charlie H.
  7. paul i could crew for you if needed give me a call on 07899046095 tnkx
  8. If you are managing to launch with a Longliner I'm sure you would be fine with a 150 or a 165, you will be surprised how just shallow it can be to launch/recover. I got one of those Sandpiper jockey wheels, its a good idea, had to make some major alterations/strengthening to it though, not being able to turn is not a problem though probably more of a help in my case Some drawings here of the modified version, try and get one made up. Drawing 1 Drawing 2 Drawing 3 Sean.
  9. THANKS FOR INFO BOYS ALL IS APPRETIATED KEEP IT COMING.
  10. HI ALL I'M THINKING OF GETTING A WARRIER 150 OR 165 (USED) WITH 4 STROKE OUTBOARD . BECAUSE I LIVE ON THE EAST COAST I WILL HAVE TO LAUNCH ON TRAILER ON LEVEL FIRM SANDY BEACH . BUT THE QUESTION I HAVE IF ANY ONE CAN HELP ME IS COULD I SINGLE HANDED PUSH EITHER BOAT (150 OR 165) IN TO THE SEA BY HAND ENOUGH TO LAUNCH OFF THE TRAILER. I HAVE AN ORKNEY 16 FOOT LONGLINER WITH 4 STROKE ON AND I CAN MANAGE NO PROBLEMS. RETRIEVING BOAT WOULD BE NO PROBLEM AS I CAN HAVE TRAILER IN DEEPER WATER AND FLOAT HER BACK ON THEN PULL OUT OF SEA WITH A ROPE . IF ANY ONE CAN ADVISE KIND REGARDS ROB J
  11. Thanks for the warm welcome guys, I intend to use the boat mainly in harbour at first until I feel competent enough to venture out. I obviously want to learn as much as I can so I'm sure joining the club will help me achieve that.
  12. hi Paul welcome to the forum. i'm a bit of a lurker allways look at the forum willing to crew with anyone mid week any time contact on 07899 046 095 is there someone that can give me access to the private section of the forum, as i joined the club at the last meeting tnkx
  13. Hi Guys, I'm a newbie here, the forum is really interesting and I'm sure I will learn a lot here. I'm Paul and my other halfs name is Paula and we are getting married in November. (I chose her so I wouldn't forget her name, (only kidding!) We are both keen anglers, both freshwater and sea, although we are currently living in the East Midlands we are moving to the Bournemouth/Poole area after Xmas. We will be getting a boat once we've moved and look forward to doing a lot of fishing. We would like to join the club and take a look at some of your boats if possible. Hope to meet some of you soon. Good fishing, Paul.
  14. Thanks for the replys, A survey is pretty much a must then, which I would want fir peace of mind. Coddy or anyone else, how do you rate your Warrior as a safe boat? I've been looking at them Boats and Outboards and they don't seem that much more than the upper priced orkneys. I've kind of been going along the train of thought that bigger is better ie the fastliner 19 as opposed to a 16ft boat, but the more I read the warrior seems to be a very popular and fairly seaworthy boat. Most of the time it would only be 2 fishing and occaisionally 3, with a very rare 4 person family (non fishing) trip just outside the marina up the river (crouch), so maybe the warrior would suit my needs better. Cheers Ian.
  15. Hi Coddy thanks for the reply, Option 3 is the one I was thinking about. The marina I have in mind has fresh water taps on the pontoons, I just wondered if it could be done. I wasn't sure if you could start the engine in the tilt position and how hard it is to lean over and actually fit the muffs. I am 6ft 2 so shouldn't be a problem . Another question of you don't mind . Would you recommend a survey on a Fastliner 19 with a value of around 7k. Also, have you any idea how much a survey would cost? I have trawled the net (excuse the pun) for prices and can only come up with a figure between 100 to 600 quid. Hope you can help. cheers Ian
  16. Hi, Thanks for all the replies and thanks Paul D for the offer of a trip on your boat. Unfortunately I live in Essex so Poole is a bit too far to go, other wise I would jump at the chance. Can anyone shed any light on the outboard flushing in marina's question I asked earlier in thread, please . Cheers Ian
  17. Hi Tom thanks for your reply, I have noticed that the nose seems to point a bit skywards on the Orkneys when underway. It somehow doesn't seem quite right lol. Thanks for the input. Another question. If you moor and out board engined boat in a marina how do you get around flushing the engine with fresh water after every use. Is it easy to put muffs on while you are hanging over the back of the boat and can you run the engine in the tilt position, a bit of a newby question, but I really don't have a clue. What do other users do with their marina moored outboard powered boats. Cheers Ian
  18. Thanks for the quick replys Andy and Martin, Just checked out the link, good website and a couple of good video clips which show the orkneys underway cheers. At 15 - 17knts what would the fuel consumption be roughly with a 50hp engine, I've given myself a budget of a litre of petrol per mile, would that be about right? Ian
  19. Hi all, This is my first post on what looks like an informative site. I'm thinking getting an Orkney Fastliner 19 and I wondered if anyones knows anything about them or has any opinions on these boats. I understand Orkneys are supposed to be safe boats and as this will be my first boat this is a main priority. There seems to be a few for sale on boats and outboards for around 6 to 8k i guess this is the going rate for them. Can any one tell me when they stopped making these as I can find very little information on the net. I also would like to know what sort of cruising speed you could expect from say a 50hp motor (this seems to be the average sized engines on the boats I've viewed on B&O). If any one can give me any info good or bad I would greatly appreciate it. Hope I havent been to vauge. Thanks in advance, Ian
  20. Hi Andy The address your looking for is 28 Scratchface Lane Bedhampton Havant Hants PO9 3NG Tel:023 9247 3920 Regards Max
  21. Good Morning Mike Thanks for the info. Hope to put it to good use this Thursday. Will p m if we do any good. By the way the comment about Cobbs was meant to be tongue in cheek ! Regards Max
  22. hi all i was hoping to go out on thursday, but due to the forecast think the harbour will be a safer bet. Hope to go after mullet, but have no knowlege of poole harbour ( have caught loads in Christchurch over the years) is any one prepared to give me info on the best marks/areas to try ? I am moored at cobbs and it seems the fattest fish are just under the boat, however i understand we are not allowed to fish there, or are we ? regards max
