  1. Thank you all for great inputs I
  2. Charlieannear Because of the ladder, this was the only place left for flaps. I
  3. Here is a picture Everything is fitted according to instructions ( i think !) Kit number : ST 1290 -60 The flaps are angled down 25 degrees in mid position. I will try to play around with the settings, but i can only move the actuater about 2 centimeters towards the boat . Do you think that will be enough ? - or should i try to 40 lbs actuater instead ?. I dont carry much weight but the motor is heavy (162 kg) By the way, transducer works fine in this position Regards Onslow
  4. I just myself some smart tabs for my Warrior 165 with a 70DF Suzuki. But they seem to brake down the boat instead of liftning it !. The actuaters is 60 lbs- isnt that to much ? . The topspeed has gone down about 6 knots !. Onslow
  5. Well the week started off slow we had quite a few mackerel infront of the coast guard station at Hengistbury head, we also had a couple of small Bream a small pout and a few doggies. Later in the week we started to target the bream because of the fight they put up for their size, we weren't disappointed either with some bigger size fish coming later in the week. We boated at least 20 bream in the last few days of the week along with a garfish. No bass were seen until the last day when fishing mate took a 3 1/2 pounder whilst fishing for bream with size 6 hooks with a small mackerel strip. All fishing was done around the Hengistbury head area. Thanks for all the advice to everyone that gave it hopefully will do beter next year as we have already booked
  6. A plea answered enabled a very difficult day to be made into a truly amazing day. Eternal gratitude to Tom and Martin who allowed an old Seaman to fulfil his final wish, his ashes to be scattered off old Harry rocks. What a grand send off. It was a day we shall always remember. What made it all the more amazing was that Tom and Martin would accept nothing but our heartfelt thanks in return. God bless you and very best whishes John, Mary, Tony, Debbie and all the family.
  7. Well things have been slow around the Island the last few weeks but deciced to chuck the boat in Friday afternoon for a few hours and headed out of Treaddur Bay, Anglesey. It didnt look too promising with big tides but headed off for Mackeral first and then off round the corner a couple of mile to try off Rhoscolyn Head. Anchored up and within Half an hour we had had doggies and huss but then i struck lucky and got a good enquiry! A bit of line off the reel and a great fight produced a decent tope! Sorry about the big grin but iv been after a tope for a while and when your not expecting much and one turns up it makes your day! Tides started ripping soon after so headed back in, only three hours but more than happy with the result!
  8. things just happen to put you out of your ordered structured mindset
  9. The driver of the boat was attempting to help the lad into his boat after the initial accident but just made a terrible mistake. It is very easy to say what you would of done (not refering to anyone) but in real situations when panic sets in some but not all people loose there head and forget very important things. I know for one that if i was in the same situation this accident would remind me without doubt.
  10. thanks all for making me so welcome i been looking for a good forum room on boat fishing for some time now!!! so well done all, keep up the good work!
  11. Seen a post on this on another forum, Tragic and a lot of bad feeling towards jet skiers and also a lot of bad feeling towards the boat driver who was involved. I have no problems with anyone on a jet ski as i like a quick raz on one from time to time but i do realise there is a few people that are a bit unsafe on them. This one is a horrible accident and my thoughts go out to the lad who lost his leg and also the boat driver that has to live with his mistake of leaving the boat in gear. Unfortunatly these things happen especially in a panic, its very important to not loose your head in that situation but its easier said than done.
  12. Gruffy did a good job - one of these days it'll be us/me that needs help. That ferry boat motoring by takes the biscuit really.

    Hi All

Hi All , what a great site with loads of info on boat fishing i looking to get my mates boat shetland in the water in the next few months , just waiting fo the harbour master at hamble ( southampton) to give as the go ahead!! I am new to boat fishing , only been a few times !! , but have been doing course and beach fishing for the last 17 years , so looking forward to the change ..
  14. thanks for the info, the boat is at cobbs for sale, nice boat, just the engine, fuel is tricky part.!! thanks dave.
  15. Here's a great bit of info, not wrote by me and a few people may of seen it before but for those who have not Posted: Mon Jul 03, 2006 7:16 pm Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2 and 4 stroke - Applicable for Overwintering \Servicing _____________________________________________ Run the engine on muffs for at least 5 mins to clean out salt and to warm it up. Have a look at the flow from the 'pee' pipe, if it is dribbling either you have salt deposits blocking the engine waterways or you need a new water pump impeller. Remove the plugs and squirt in some fogging oil ( Quicksilver Winterising is one ), turn engine over to distribute oil and replace the plugs. When you fire up next time run engine until it runs clean and then replace plugs. The old ones are then spares. These plugs are known to be good whereas a new plug from the box could be faulty. Remove top and bottom slotted screws on gearbox bullett. Drain gearbox oil, if it is clear you are OK, if it is milky get help. Replace by filling from the bottom hole and when it comes out of the top hole it is full. Get the bottom pug in quickly followed by the top. At the bottom of each carb there is a brass nut, undo it 1/2 turn and fuel will come out. Drain all the fuel from each carb starting at the top. Nip the nuts up afterwards. Take off the prop and grease the splines, check you havn't got anything round the shaft, bit of line trapped there can work under the gearbox oil seal and cause a world of grief. Grease all points on the engine with a grease gun filled with a lime based grease and give the steering tube a squirt with Wurth spray grease when fully extended. Store in the fully retracted position to stop water ingress into the inner tube. Inside the cable is all mild steel. Check the anodes on the engine, any that are 50% gone should be replaced. Give the engine an all over squirt with Duck oil, or WD at a pinch. A squirt of Wurth on all the moving linkages is worth while 4 stroke only, ____________ Drop the engine oil and remove the oil filter, replace filter and top up with fresh oil. Use the oil recomended by the mnufacturer, it is dearer than normal 4 stroke oil but contains additional addatives for marine use. It is a once a year cost so not worth saving a few bob IMHO. General _______ Give the outside a good wash down and dry, touch in any paint chips and when all dry give the exterior a coat of wax polish. Leave this on without polishing to protect the paintwork from the weather. A wash over and polish next time you use it will bring it up to spec. Take the battery out of the boat and stand on plenty of newspaper in a shed, trickle charge once a month. Top up your fuel tanks to the top and close the breathers to stop water ingress and condensation. OR empty them completely and store upside down with the caps removed. Check the hoses and bulbs or signs of cracking, perishing. Check the fittings at the ends of the fuel lines, especially the 'O'ring seals. any damage replace them. Take all the removable electrics off the boat, wrap in a towel and hide at the back of the airing cupboard, it will do them good. All the electrical connections will benefit from a dab of vaseline. Have a look at the end of the ariel co ax cable that goes into the VHF, if it is black the conducter is corroded. Cut it back to fresh metal and remake the connection. It is surprising how many VHF faults are down to this. Check your flares are still in date and any auto inflate life jackets are in good nick. Check the CO2 cannisters are tight, they tend to work loose with the engine vibes. Take the rope off your boat and give it a wash in warm water and washing powder, it picks up loads of sand and this causes wear inside the rope. Rinse in plenty of cold water and coil, hang it in a shed out of direct sunlight to dry. Check all the shackles on the anchor gear are nipped up and not rusty. Wash the trailer with warm soapy water to get rid of salt, Check the wheel bearings, rock the tyres side to side any play replace the bearings. While the trailer is jacked up spin the wheels, any graunching, replce the bearings. Take the bearings out clean them and check, if any signs of rust at all, replace and regrease. Check the tyres for damage and if you are leaving the boat for any length of time jack up and block off, this gives the tyres/ suspension a rest and stops flats forming on tyres. Grease the tow hitch and linkages. Any signs of rust on the trailer metalwork will benift from a wire brushing and a coat of a Zink rich primer followed by a cold galvanising paint. The trailer rollers should be checked for flats and the pivot pins dosed with Wurth spray grease. All I can think of but I am sure I have missed plenty, someone will fill in the blanks If you get stuck on anything shout, best way to understand why it won't start on the day is to have a go on shore when you can afford to make a mistake. Sorry for the length of the post
  16. Usaually better it was a bit slow all round even the charters were not reporting much, The weekend before produced 12 different species on just the Saturday including Huss, Conger, Gurnard, doggies, Codling, launce, mackeral, plaice, Coalfish, pollack, Wrass and spotted ray. We have not been for the Tope in the deeps yet but out there produces some good fishing, tope are inshore as well as smoothies but not showing much at the moment. Fishing the Menai Straits and a few other marks produces plenty Bass but you either catch loads or none just depends on the day. Damon
  17. Well thought i would post a bit of a report to let you know how things are going in Anglesey Went out last weekend and to be honest things were a bit slow, weather was Sunny though and only 6mph winds so an enjoyable day! We launched out of treaddur bay at 8am and headed round to south stack to our usual Mackeral mark South Stack As usual produced strings of macky so we were soon on our Way to Ravens point to try a bit of general fishing, Now anyone who has fished down this end will know about our reputation for pulling doggie after doggie in and today was no different! Plagued with them as usual snatching the bait but dad ended up with a Small codling as well on a double header Well things were slow and not much showing so as me moved about a bit and used bigger baits it started producing a few huss but nothing spectacular, was hoping for Tope but nothing this time, sat back and relaxed and got into the butties for a bit Our mate terry, the treaddur bay lifeboat helmsman paid us a quick visit and By this time the tide was roaring so we decided to try a few drifts which produced some small pollack Nothing to shout home about but thats fishing, especially round here! We are planning a tow and camp and might have to put poole bay on the list, Its one place i have always wanted to fish and looks beautiful round there! Damon
  18. anyone know anything about a faeton 730, any info would be good, it's got a 4.3 mercruiser inboard, any ideas on performance, fuel consumption, etc, etc, . thanks dave
  19. Thanks Paul We are staying next to the boat club adjacent to the wick slipway, the place we are stopping at are trying to fit us on their potoon so fingers crossed. What's the river stour like for fishing in we are thinking of trying with spinners also what is the run like for getting out of this is the part I am dreading the most? Is their any not so secret marks that you could point us to please?
  20. Hi All Looking for some advice as where to fish around the christchurch area? Father-in-law has a seahog hunter and we are bringing it down on holiday to christchurch, hoping to steam out to sea most days if we can find somewhere to moor it for a week ( any suggestions would be most helpful) if not will be launching from chrsistchurch harbour. As we are new to the area any advice would be most gratefully accepted. Thanks Graham
  21. fantastic fishing - well done
  22. Hi Rich, There's no problem with the unit sitting on the bottom. The power leads and air hose are all twisted together to make them all one piece going up the sides of the tank. If the air is adjusted properly, they will school tail to nose in the current and will be mostly stationary in their swimming. This will allow you to pack more bait in the tank. When first using the unit, put a small amount of bait in the tank and make adjustments to get them to school properly. Then you can add more bait. Each species has it's own schooling speed and also stress factors. The more delicate the bait, the less you can maintain. As you know you need an oval or round tank. Otherwise delicate bait will go to the corners and die rather quickly. With non schooling bait it doesn't matter what the shape of the tank is. I'll be learning about your area of the world as we talk. Everybody is a teacher and we learn from each other. Since you have colder water, aeration isn't as critical as Florida, but you still need aeration if you want to trailer your boat home with bait and go fishing the next day. Tom
  23. Hi Martin, Glad to be aboard! Looking forward to helping if I can. Keeping bail alive and healthy is mostly trial and error, so keep the frustratiion levels low at first attempts. Tom
  24. The froth you mentioned is nothing more than fish poop. Just skim it off. All your aeration is occurring at the bottom where the aerator is located. Air is being blended at the impeller and the tiny bubbles are bringing up all the impurities in the water. Just remember that you'll get great aeration no matter what the Air Control setting. The Air Control just controls the speed of the water so that you can control the schooling speed of the fish. Start with an open valve so the water speed is very slow. As you close off the air, the water speed will increase. Try to get the fish schooling as though they were on a tread mill and in one spot. Once you achieve that, you won't need to change the air control unless you use a different species. Every species has it's own schooling speed.
  25. A farming friend of mine tells me a 10 tonne load of pig slurry spread from a stationery slurry spreader at midnight seemed to encourage them to move on pretty sharpish. Mind you he made sure they did not know the organiser as his straw barns would have no doubt been torched. Makes you sick, doesn't it - working hard and paying a good slice of tax only for freeloaders to treat us like worms. Mind you, I know a few true romanys and they hate these people as much as we do.
