  1. Got Nik-Nak off the berth a couple of times over the weekend, well fri, sat & sunday. friday was warm & pleasant, sat was bumpy, sunday was fantastic. Had a few pollack, schoolies, pout, wrasse to 2lb 9oz, a gorgeous cookoo of 1lb 4oz. Then sunday found a shedful of bream on a mark west of the bank, best 2lb 2oz though most were over a 1lb & half. Down on a 2oz lead in 55ft water with a 6lb class rod, even on a neap the bream fed all day, best pout of the day 1lb 14oz & only one solent salmon. Great the weather & fish have turned for the better though I like a consistant supply of fresh mackeral
  2. Steamed out to the NAB grounds early on Saturday... sea like a millpond. Picked up a few Macci + a Herring on way to UTOPIA. Set the hook at about 8:00am with a couple of other boats already on station. Down went the lines with an assortment of baits to optimise our chances... as it happened it didn't matter what bait we used, the smoothies just jumped on them as soon as they hit the bottom. Action from the off, 7lb common to my mate who promptly followed it with another that went 15lb... the day continued, averaging a fish every 10 minutes for the whole of the day... good mix of Starry vs Commons with at least 50% going into double figures. Estimate about 50 hounds for the day. Tempted 3 pack tope to mackeral, so put a flapper out to see if any sizeable fish were about... took about 15 minutes, when the line took off uptide, then realising it was hooked sped off back down tide like a train. 20 minutes later, a 25lb tope was boated and photographed. On a sour note, I was disappointed to see the practice of gaffing smoothies, even though they're being released. Actually caught one with a gaping hole behind its head. What's so difficult with using a landing net (and they dis have one on board!), or alternatively lift them in by hand. Taking Paul D out on Tuesday to see if they're still hungry.

  5. A fellows wife goes missing while holidaying on the Australian coast. He spends a terrible night wondering what could have happened to her. Next morning there's a knock at the door and he is confronted by a couple of pretty miserable policemen, an old Sarge and a young Constable. The Sarge says, "Mate, we have some news for you, unfortunately some really bad news, but, some good news and maybe some really good news". "Well," says the bloke, "You'd better let me have it both barrels, what's the bad news?" The Sarge says, "I'm really sorry pal, but your wife is dead. Young Bill here found her lying at about five fathoms in a little cleft in the reef. He got a line around her and we pulled her up, but she was dead." The bloke is naturally pretty distressed to hear this and has a bit of a turn. After a few minutes he pulls himself together and asks what the good news is. The Sarge says, "Well when we got your wife up there were quite a few really good sized crays and a swag of edible crabs in and around her wetsuit, so we've brought you your share." And he hands the bloke a sugar bag with a couple of nice crays and four or five crabs in it. "Geez thanks. They're bloody beaut... I guess it's an ill wind and all that. Now, what's the really good news?" "Well", the Sarge says, "Me and young Bill here get off duty at around 11 o'clock and we're gonna shoot over there and pull her up again!.... You fancy comin' with us?
  6. Hi Duncan, Two great minds think alike. Regards Drew
  7. Hi Libra1, I have seen similar advertisements to yours on other Forums and angling sites. As in this post you never mention the manufacturer of the reels or the price. Neither do you include pictures. Is there a reasonable reason for this, I am just a suspicious person. Cheers Drew

  16. just wondering if anyone got a boat fitted with trim tabs that i could possibly look at
  17. can anyone tell me how the trim tabs are fitted, are they just screwed or bolted through the hull? seems alot ot pressure to hold if only held by screws.
  18. Went out both Sat & Sun looking for plaice in the swash & hook but none showing. Well windy on saturday with no tide & wind blown onto the shoal. even worse in the harbour. Sunday was flat as you like, many other boats out having their first wet of the season, never heard a squawk out of the box so I guess no one bagged any plaice. Score for the 2 days was 9 schoolies to 2lb20z, most being around a pound at best. Found a nice gully at the top end that looks promising. Good to be out & get my nose sunburnt! Nick
  19. Just like to say hi to all you anglers out there and hope for a productive season
  20. Hi Paul Salt-x is perfect for removing the salt from your engine? Remember if you use a dustbin or bucket you only have to fill it up to the cavitation plate. If you are unable to get fresh water, you can also mix salt-x with sea water, you will need to change the ratio from (15ml of salt-x per litre of fresh water) to a ratio of (38ml of salt-x per litre of sea water) Hope this helps? jake
  21. This weeks Sea Angler (p145) has a letter from David Caulfield of Penn Trading Ltd warning of a scam going around E Bay. Penn reels are being offered, normally on a 1 day auction, at low prices from China, payment is made via Western Union or Bank Transfer which are non refundable. There are other makes involved, not just Penn so be warned. If it seems to good to be true then it probably is!!! Neil
