  1. why not ban the landing of all fish over 35cm that way all the breeding fish will be conserved.
  2. My Dory has a drain plug assembly which has started to loosen in the hull. I really don't want to get my feet wet. In addition the brass keel strip needs re-fixing. Does anyone know a reliable repairer. The Poole area would be preferable to "further afield". Bob D.
  3. Rich; Fridays should be O.K. for me but what start time do you plan? P.S. Does Martin know this is going on???Should we all bring a few handfuls of salt to keep things legit?? BobD
  4. Hi Guys, I note the problem with auto log in. This could be due to you having the 'old' site cookie still stored on your PC's, I would suggest logging offf the site, then clearing your browser cache and cookies and close your browser. Re-start your browser and log in - this usually clears it. Hope that helps, Jim
  5. Thank's for writing back, max engine revs 6000 according to mariner, height adjustment is via holes on outboard bracket, the guy with the other 640 was on another wesite that i cannot sign up to,it just seem's that i am probably not getting full hp only running at 5000 and was wondering if anyone has the same boat with similar setup. Off on a course now, back on line Saturday. Cheer's all
  6. Hi all new member to this site and was wondering if i could pick your brains, purchased a quicksilver 640 pilothouse in september and the engine will rev out to only 4300 revs with 19p prop, at 1st service dealer changed prop for 17p brining revs up to 5000,i have been told to maybe raise the engine 1 knotch (at moment is on the lowest setting) although the cav plate is level with bottom of keel, also another member says he gets 30+ knots with a 90hp mariner 4s on same boat,i have a 115hp mariner 4s and best top speed fully trimmed is 29 knots on gps and f/finder. Any info would be handy as i feel i am perhaps not getting full speed from my engine. thank's in advance Jim ps i am away on a course all next week so sorry if i don't respond quickly
  7. salt-x is perfect for trailers and cars, just get your self a garden pump sprayer put plain water in it and go over the trailer This way you will see how much you will need for a wash down, after all there's no point in wasting the salt-x by mixing to much then bumping it, anyone ever seen a white tubby(turbot) my fishing partner landed one in the summer. jake
  8. hi guy's It'll be nice to see more uk boats over the fishings not bad,the weathers killing it. spoke to a guy before Xmas he had a 15lb bass 1/2 dozen between 5/9lb someone did say the tubbys are in as well? how's the fishing over there? jake

  11. Hi Paul, 300 hrs running without lifting the hood? I just can"t see it myself. I run a Yamaha 100 and run up about 120hs a year. I have it serviced at 100hr intervals and given the once over at 50hrs. Its suprising how many little things crop up at the 50hr inspection. Can you trust the e-tec claim and hope for the best? BECKS
  12. thanks guys sorry ive only just got back cus the computer was down but thank you anyway XxX
  13. the lymington open was won with a 20lb 15oz cod on the whole not all that many caught though
  14. HI BOB, Thanks for the info, looks like i"ll have to upgrade to a big combi unit(eyesight on the wane) I do have 2 SD slots on the plotter but nothing on the sonar. I have used the lowrance free software but found i couldn"t enter waypoints, routes ect. All I could do is view the chart. The navionics people at the boatshow told me software was on the way. I wonder if raymarine units record sonar as to me they were the most impressive on view(pricey though) Anyway mate keep the input coming, really interesting to know Exactly how things lie down there ( 3d sonar that works?) Regards BECKS
  15. Thanks for the advice. I'll let you know how we go (weather permitting)
  16. Maybe a long shot but am after some help for this December the 9th. Going fishing somewhere off the Needles on a friends boat but don't know the fishing area very well. After some help with possible marks and tactics. Assume Cod at this time of the year and would need marks that are relatively easy to find as know the area reasonbly well but not the fishing marks. Boat is equipped with a fishfinder which should help with bottom features. Am expecting some help if possible but not somebody to write out their crown jewels of fishing spots or their magic bait combo just some help to locate some fish! Cheers in advance
  17. Hi Bob, This is just what i"ve been trying to do for some time ie. chart wreck postions in relation to tide ect. What electronics are you running? Do you need a combi unit to do this or can you interface? I curently have a lowrance 6000 plotter and x97 sounder. There is no software available from navionics yet, coming soon i was told 12 months ago. Many thanks Becks

  19. Late Friday when the wind and rain and rain were still tearing through made the decision to go out on Saturday, it seemed unlikely the weather forecast could be right. Saturday morning collected Max and headed to Cobbs to be greeted by a fantastic morning, water like glass and the place to ourselves. We headed out of Poole and encountered a bit of a swell in the Bay but nothing serious. Anchored up about 5 miiles out taking pot luck. Max had only been fihing once before and after the performance I might not invite him again! we fished with squid and caught a steady stream of dogs then Max thought he had good fish. After about 10 minutes, i was convinced it was a big ray, we then saw a massive fish off the stern and a flash, I thought cod, no such luck it was a conger. We got it to the side of the boat and tried to net it, we couldnt get it in, so decided to t bar it at the side of the boat. It was about 6ft long, the biggest fish caught on Helena, 30lb perhaps. We then caught a few pouting and whiting and loads more dogs then Max struck into a very quick fish a superb fight and a 12lb starry smothound beginners luck again! Normally I take my boat out in October and haven't experienced fishing at this time of year before, I thought smoothies were summer fish, is it usual to still catch them now?
  20. i must be a bit thick as i cant find the link.
  21. Sounds good Rich , I am hoping to get out this weekend, I will let you know.
  22. take a look at their web site http://www.novuraniaribs.co.uk/accessories/smartabs.htm no electrics, no wiring, no hassle. got to be good
  23. Headed out from Cobbs mid morning and caught some pollack off Brownsea using micro feathers. Lovely and calm, Peacocks on the walls and some curious daytrippers gave me some funny looks. It was so pleasantly calm, a great day to be out. Fished livebait in the Swash channel, with so little tide didn't get much interest, until I had a good take and the braid parted!! After a few more drifts the engine buzzer started to sound and the engine went into limp home mode. Crawled back to Cobbs at 4 knots a shame as the speed has been lifted. The problem was the thermostat so could have been a lot worse. Bumped into Maverick on the slip he and his crew had had an interesting day.
  24. Hi All, I am new here and also new to fishing.........I do have a small boat though !!!
