The Ross Tiger, Sister to the Ross Zebra, is now a museum piece, part of the Grimsby fishing heritage centre Part of the old dock in Grimsby is now the Humber Cruising Association marina There are only a handfull of trawlers left now But plenty of angling (and sailing) boats I guess its the same story everwhere The muddy Humber still holds plenty of Cod in the Winter At times it must be one of the best Cod fisheries in the country As i said in my introduction, we are waiting for the Whiting to arrive Whiting from October to Jan, Cod from Dec to April When the Whiting turn up, there are millions of them When we are after the Cod they are a pest But in October, it is good fun catching them on light tackle, spinning rods and braid

Just thought I would say Hi Been looking at the site for a while, very impressed...... My name is Chris Banks I am a displaced Southerner living Near Grimsby and am the Secretary of the Humber Cruising Association, which is a boat angling club with 150 members with approx 70 boats ranging from 14 ft dinghys to 40 ft cruisers I own a trailed Icelandic flyer, a 15 ft Seahog lookalike I fish the Humber and Lincolnshire coast. At the moment we are waiting for the transition from Summer to Autumn fishing, the Whiting (and Cod) are on their way.... Enough about me I will stick my contribution in every now and then, perhaps a different perspective from Up North

Out of Baiter at 11.30am with friend and his son who had never fished before. I have a half decent rod and a cheapie that Tim uses but needed a couple more for the guests. Not organised enough to go down to second hand shops to look for some cheap quality so ended up on Wimborne Road and popped in on the off chance. Rod and reel for

Thanks for the offer of the ride but I'm out on mine tomorrow - might even get down to Weymouth... or maybe not as it's a long way from Poole!! Perhaps we could sort something for another time.

Thanks everyone for your replies. It would seem that I need to be looking for a new trailer not necessarily a new boat! Has anyone had a DeGraff roller trailer or know anything about them as there are some cheapies on Ebay?!!? Also, the Raider is evidently now being made in Poland and the first boats are due in the UK in September. Jimbob: Are you launching your boat anywhere local this weekend so that I could possibly have a quick look.

I'm looking for a trailerable fisher and am stuck between a Raider 16 and a Warrior 165. Any comments, good or bad, about either boat gratefully received, especially to do with engine sizes and performance. Also is there anyone willing to let me look at theirs!! ... or there's always the Predator??!!?? I have a Quicksilver 580 at the moment and wonder if I'll be wrong to change it but am finding it too hard to launch and recover??

Thanks for tips all. Hoping to get out again on Saturday with the same winning combination of fathers and sons providing the weather follows the forecast and winds stay below the 10mph that a cathedral hull seems to tolerate!

Travelled out of Poole Harbour into the bay for the first time with son, his friend and friend's father. Looking for a mark AlunJ had shown me which of course we could not find without GPS. However cast in hope and had some early luck on rag and a simple ledger. Catching some small bream too small for the pan and a mackerel that was good on toast on Sunday afternoon. This was followed by two bass which we returned being under 15". Moved around then using the sounder which Pinafore has as a poormans 'fishfinder'. Although it shows some bottom variation it's a poor substitute for the real thing so memo to self, 'Which is the best and also the cheapest combined GPS fishfinder?' Carried on with the boys having the fun that a first real trip brings and helped by them catching two small sharks (dogfish?) and a gurnard. Then picked up two larger bass that had gulped the barbed hooks too deep to recover with long nosed forceps, now thinking about barbless hooks. Some more bream with a mackerel for luck and we returned after 7 hours at sea. Son's view summed up by: "Please Dad can we stay longer it's so much fun!" Meanwhile, despite heavy overcast conditions, got a bald head red so there's a lesson!

UltraFisher 21' fast fishing boat 1998, Mariner 90HP 1998,Mariner 8HP 1991 aux, Simrad CE33 chart plotter, Lowrance X71 sounder, VHF & CB radios, Rapide rollercoaster single axle trailer, All other equipment necessary to get out on the water fishing ( except rods & reels!!! )

Thanks for the info chaps, I don't think I'll be getting the r/rover. I watched one bury itself up to the axles on Suday recovering a jet-ski. Apparently they are prone to diff-lock failure.

Any chance of guests attending? i could either trail down or crew, but crewing would be in exchange for education as to the way of the boat fisher!! I've got all the gear but am unsure as to whether I have any idea!!

At the moment I am using a front wheel drive deisel van (Renault Kangoo) for lanching with. The bottom end of the slipway I use is covered in sand so I have to un-hitch the trailer and roll it down. Retrieval is equally fun, the boat has to be put on the trailer and then the trailer attached to the back of the van with 15m of rope and then dragged up using a skid plate on the front of the trailer untill it is far enough up that I can hitch it up conventionally. The top of the slipway is quite steep so last Saturday I left about 2000 miles worth of rubber on the slipway due to wheel spin. Not the best way of doing things!! I have the chance of an '89 Range Rover for
