  9. Were you planning to fish it on the original date?
  10. Hi new to club so hello to every one! I am looking for some where to keep my boat (raider 16 Cuddy) in poole harbour. I have had the boat on my drive but feel it would be easier if she was on a berth or even a dry stack ? Any ideas?
  11. Very frustrating! my boat was broken into on F pontoon at Cobbs a few years ago. Fortunately the damage was minimal. The police were very responsive and did take fingerprints. Hope you get the engine back. Hunter
  12. OK, its official. The Varne Boat Club BYOB COD OPEN has been postponed till the reserve date of the 7th of November. I'm really sorry but the Easterly forecast for Sunday is barely fishable at best and certainly will bring very unpleasant fishing conditions. They will be downright dangerous for the smaller boats, especially if sunday nights stronger winds roll in early. I have made the decision a little early to give those who are travelling from further away more chance to cancel arrangements. If you would like to fish the reserve date and would like me to hang onto your booking details or would like to book in on the new date please let me know. Once again, I am really sorry to have to postpone but I want all our competitors and guests to have an enjoyable day with us and I will not take a chance on safety. Many Thanks John R
  13. Bump! The first cod are starting to show on the marks.

  16. Does anybody have a working colour fish finder in good condition for sale? I am thinking of something along the lines of a Garmin Ff400c but would take advice on other makes. This is my first fish finder and I am a novice boat fisher in an open 12ft Dory. Many thanks, Regards, Neil.
  17. ok thanks ill give him a call tomorrow. the marina dont want to know about it.
  18. Can anyone recommend a boat repairer in the Christchurch area that could be contacted to repair the following damage? I found the boat in the following condition on the bank holiday weekend. The bow roller was dangling off the front of the boat and there is a hole where it used to be. Basically what had happened is that the mooring is tidal and the boat is parked at 90 degrees to the walk way, bow on. The marina owner had moved the boat from a prior mooring and had tied it up such that the front of the boat at high tide was sticking over the marina walkway. Then as the tide went out the bow of the boat had gotten stuck with the bow roller, which sticks 2-3" out, resting on the edge of the walkway. As the tide has gone out the boat's weight has gone on the bow roller, pushing verticlly upwards and in the end the three attaching bolts and washers have been pulled through the wheelhouse roof, the reinforcing plate inside the roof/ bow has broken and about an inch square of dekcing wood and fibre glass has been broken. So can anyone offer advice on the repair? Does the whole of the reinforcing plate need to be replaced or just part of it, only the bottom end seems to have broken? What is the plate made out of? Would the boat need to go to a boat yard - I dont have a trailer? Thanks Rob

  20. Hi, Just joined the club. New to boating and fishing. My boat is a Sealine S23 cruiser, not the ideal fishing boat but i'm going to give it a good try. I do not have much experiance with either boating or fishing. Anyone out there that is experianced in both boating & fishing and maybe their boat is out of commission but would really like to enter the competition, get in touch. I know it is short notice but you have to try. Or anyone need crew for the day, I am happy to just be there picking up info and helping out. Failing any takers, I will get down to the weigh in at Cobbs. See you there. Regards Alan Verticalalan
  21. Hi Mike. I have what is called a compromise boat! Half to please the wife and the other half to go fishing. It is a Sealine S23 cruiser. Already thinking most of my fishing will be on low wind no rain days due to the boat. Although, once I can get out of the Bay to do some fishing I will know better how the boat will handle on the drift and at anchor. Hi Brian I went to school in Dorchester in the late 60's My surname more often than not gets misread. Most people see an R in it. (Bown) Thanks for the thread Rob I will look into it.
  22. Thanks for the Hello's With a little more knowledge and experiance I would be interested in joining the Comp on Sunday, but having been out in the Bay today, (wind speed approx 20mph) and similar forecast for Sunday and having got thoroughly soaked for my trouble today. I am not sure I have the skill level with my boat at the moment to go out further. Unless someone is looking for crew/tea maker, sandwich maker for the day. I am quite happy to suck up information in exchange for making the tea. If no go with that I will come down to Cobbs quay and have a chat. Where and what time at Cobbs will the weigh in be set?
  23. I have just joined the club and become a member. I hope to get to the meeting on the 2nd September. Does the Club send through a joining pack? Membership details, boat stickers etc. If not could someone post the address for me please. I have been away from fishing since my youth 'a long time ago' and have forgotten pretty much everything I didn't know anyway. I am hoping that through this forum, the club meetings, and getting together with members that dont mind educating a complete dunce I can get enough fishing and boating knowledge to have a few enjoyable days fishing and hopefully, 'catch some fish'
  24. Please post any details of your open comps on the VBC forum http://www.vbcforum.co.uk/forum/index.php http://www.varneboatclub.co.uk/index.html What is the situation with slipways and boat storage/short term moorings in poole? I might be able to drum up some support for a summer comp if you have one. You have the advantage of sheltered water whatever the weather. We are sheltered from the prevailing winds at the cod grounds but if it blows out we have some great winter beach fishing - oh and a good bar in the boat club!
  25. I hope you guys will forgive this cheeky first post. I would like to invite any members who trail their boat to our annual Cod Open competition on the 10th of October at the Varne Boat Club (near Dungeness) in Kent. As Fishing Captain of the club i am trying to foster links with clubs that are a little further afield and this seems like a good first step. We have a locked boat compound with CCTV and an excellent selection of local B&Bs if any members fancy staying over before or after the event. If any of you would like further details please post here or PM me. Many thanks John
