  6. Well done Alun and Terry. Glad you got into some fish. Alun what breaking strain flouro were you using? I would suggst a minimum 70lb breaking strain line when targeting Blondes. If the fish takes the hook down there grinding pads soon abraid lesser lines. Martin
  7. Well done George, beautiful looking fish arn't they. Maverick launched from Poole and went out in the pea soup which soon cleared. We headed to our favoured and found a spot to sit on. Our tally for the day was Ten Blonde Rays with the heaviset going to Dean at 20lb 6oz. I managed one of 17lb 12oz Reg well Reg came along and enjoyed the ride Martin

  15. Probably to busy chasing soft targets to satisfy their targets
  16. I had problems with my engine/prop when I first got it, it would only achieve 4500 rpm. Kept onto Warrior who just said that's the prop we recommend for the best all round performance and fuel economy, balderdash! I went and seen Tom at prop revolutions who did the calcs and said you don't want one of those you wants one of these.... maybe Well turns out Toms guestimate was spot on my Optimax now revs at 5400/5500 depending on the day. What I'm trying to say is talk to the professionals. They do the calcs for free, then for a little investment you could end up saving a small fortune long term. Kept the original prop as a spare. Tried it about 2 years after changing to the new prop and Maverick seemed like a slug getting onto the plane, soon changed back again Martin
  17. Mike As I see it you are 100% correct in what you say.... almost. The top speed question can have many meanings. First as you correctly point out is the top speed is only rarely achievable and in my experience definitely not comfortable both for your back or your pocket. However the top speed is also an indication to whether your outfit is set up correctly. If you take this info and put it with max rpm achieved you will be warned of any incorrect set up. If you are incorrectly propped it could (most probably will) cost more in fuel to run than if you had you rig set up with the right size and pitch of prop. Also the engine will not be achieving its full hp at the prop if you can
  18. Fletch Firstly do you trim your motor out when running at full chat. You will get more rpm if you do this but do not over do the trimming or you may end up whisking air I have just looked on the Honda site, which states your engine should rev at 5500 rpm. If you are struggling to get 5000rpm you are probably over propped. If you
  19. Onslow I have just looked at the Suzuki site and the operating maximum rpm for the DF70 is 5200-5800 so at 5900 you are slightly over reving which might suggest you need to either have your current prop re-pitched a little or a slightly larger prop. The effect of both the above would be to give you slightly slower acceleration but more top end. Take advice from you local prop specialist, he will be best placed to advise. Over reving by just 100rpm isn't major but it would make a difference to performance. Another thought is it could be that the boat isn't trimmed correctly but I think this is doubtfull. Martin
  20. During last years comp we had the winning Blonde and caught a few plaice on Maverick. I would say that plaice is the best chance for a flatty. I really havent had a finger on the pulse this yearand maybe wrong so who does know? Martin
  21. Open the attached for details
  22. Andy See attached
  23. Andy All club member only comps are run along the same rules, Fishing times you can find here You can fish up to 2 hooks with pennel rigs counting as one hook so long as both of the hooks in the pennell rig are in the same bait. You may fish your hooks from one or two rods. Weigh your fish on the boat but do take the lowest steady reading gained. We trust our members to play fair which I believe they always do. Don't forget to book in at least a day before then on VHF channel 6 on the day just to verify you are out. Also pick the 7 hr continuos period you will fish to suit your day Have fun Martin
  24. Rich yep fisrt blip in 7 years of charging around. Tony reckons it could be a diaphram in the fuel pump but can't do it until next monday That means I will have to nurse Maverick along in this weeks comp. Hopefully all will be well but keep your ears open for a pan pan from me. Martin BTW charlie I will do score sheets this evening
  25. Dean and I headed West in the club species comp. We had decided not to take it to seriously, as we wanted to have a go for some fish that pull back. Our plan was to anchor a bank as the tide eased and as it went away again. Got to the mark and boy I have never seen the tide going as quick so we gave up that idea and thought we would look for some marks to fish west of St Albans head. Well not knowing that area we carried on steaming and ended up on Lulworth Banks. Found a spot and anchored on the now ebbing tide. Bull Huss after Bull Huss interspersed with LSD
