I'm not a fly fisherman, but having watched many fly fishing program, one thing that seems to be mentioned commonly is that the fly imitates the food (be it flies or larves) is feeding on at the time of the year. For example mayfly may work in early summer, but probably won't work so well later on. Your tackle shop should be able to help you with the sort of fly for the time of the year.

Boats and Outboards is still the place to sell, it's free. Failing that you can always part exchange it if you are buying from a 'dealer', but you may not get top money for it. How much do you think your cadet is worth?

I have a Cormoran 610 sports fisher, not a Quicksilver but similar. Can you remind us what do you have in at the moment. I used to have a shetland sheltie, when I decided I wanted a bigger boat for the family, I decided a pilot house would suit me best. I now think I placed too much emphesis on the family matter . Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely boat )otherewise I wouldn't have bought a new Tohatsu TLDi 90 for her last summer), but it's too big for my fishing. If I live closer to the sea, and have a regular crew who helps out with cleaning her afterward then maybe I can live with her, but she's too much for me personally. Especially at the end of a cold/freezing winter evening coming back from the slip and have to hose her down, scrub her down, flush the outboard when at that time the only think you want is a hot steaming cuppa in front of the telly/fire........

Every year the club does a 5 days trip to the channel island (Alderney), it involves fishing various wreck on the way over. However, this April will be the last one for a little while as the response has been lukewarm at best. There is rumour of Adam thinking about an Oban Skate trip tho. On the otherhand, anyone can organise a trip themselves and ask fellow members to join/share cost.

Down at Weymouth, the bass are still around altho only 2-3 lb with the occassional 5 lber. Also there are reports of plaice being caught already. I'm out from there tomorrow (if the weather god shall be so kind) I'll tell you if I catch or not.
-
Thanks for the pike trip although not many were caught (3 altogether), but plenty of other fish including chubb, roach, brown trout, greyling, (was there dace as well?). Please pass on our appreciation to Anthony for letting us fish the river.

Generally once perspex is scratched, there isn't much you can do, you can polish it a little, but I foind the result disappointing. Why don't you get some new one cut? Perspex ain't that expensive, go to glazing firms and see what off cuts they have going cheap.

If you want DSC, then go for the fixed type, not aware there is a handheld DSC yet.

Saw that on the news last night, it should work well.

In Chinese the name is literally means 'Hairy/fur' crab. Every Sep in the Lunar calender, they goes down river to reach the sea, they are more active at night so picking them off is done mostly at night. Once caught, the esaiest way to cook it is by either steaming or boiling it, eat it hot or stick it in the fridge to cold down then eat it with vinegar ginger dip. Not sure about bait, their shell is quite hard, maybe ok when they are peeling tho.
-
In his case I don't think it's temporary......
-
If anyone finds any, they are great for eating altho a little small.

Charlie, how about a volunteer list for crews on the new boats....

Not sure where Paul has moved the Members boats to and your boat isn't in the member boat gallery, but here's the page where your boat photos are. Overdraft

I used these people for auto components, good prices and fast carriage. http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk/V...epage/home.html

Bob F is the man regarding these gizmos. As Tom said you get what you paid for. The top end units has functions you probably won't need, for example, some GArmin and Raymarine can log the seabed, ie., you can go home and examine the seabed you had covered, but do you need it? The Navman 7100 is easy to use, just pick it up and speak, while the 7200 is more expensive but with more functions. I have the 7100 and it's ok, chatted on it, it sounds good and touch wood never had to use the red distress buttom, the 5600 chartplotter is great, it shows me where I am, manual and me just don't mix, so don't ask me what are the functions.
-
If you do a search on here about navman vhf, there should be an old thread regarding this and other vhf plus other electronics. Some will have more function than other, some are rather basic. Navman is the more basic one, less functions than other but does what it says on the box. And I thought you said you don't half money to burn , but ff (

If you are experienced with auto elec, you'll do fine on the boat. They are both 12v. The only main difference is that you can't use the boat body as a -ve, you will have to runn a -ve from the battery to the switch panel. You don't need circuit breaker, as the switch panel (should) have fuses. Othe elec equipments have additional inline fuses. Depending what you do, you may or may not need a 2 battery setup. It will depends 1) on how many toys you are planning to installed. If all you will have is fishfinder and vhf, and the outboard is drawing small amount (what size is it anyway) 2) how long/much fishing you are planning. The longer you are anchored your ob won't be charging the battery, but you can switch the FF off, and use a backup handheld vhf, then 1 battery will probably be enough. It is also very easy to add an extra battery later, so there's no need to rush.

How sharp are pike's teeth? Do we need pike trace or would 30 lb flurocarbon be enough?
-
I guess it's offers of crew once the boat is fitted out Charlie, the 'covered' area is huge, is most of that gonna be a cabin or you gonna have a small cabin and a seperate underway seating area?
-
Wow, lovely boat and she looks massive..... Bet Daniel and Sam can'r wait to get her ready to fish.
-
I think that depends on where you are. Yes alu prop gets damaged much easier, but on the up side is that the damage absorbs some force, which otherwise may or may not breaks the next weakest link, ie bending the prop shaft. Sandbar probably not as damaging as a solid lump of rock, for example had Paul had a s/s prop when he ran over that big lump of rock off Hengisbury with his Honda, I would have thought the repair bill a lot bigger.

I know some of the chartered boats have them, but having seen one fitted to a small fishing boat before.
