Rich, pm me your number again and i'l call you. Alun, It is about 70quid to launch for a year, but there is quite a bit of free parking there. Maybe 30 cars or so, and its along side the harbour wall. There is also a large NFDC car park there to.
  3. I think thats a matt le tissier and Ian Dowie hybrid? more commoningly known as a matLeDowie, or translated to Dom in short

    Solent help

haha, no worries about that mate, i'l just be greatful when ever they arrive. A club meet some time mate. Adam, i browsed the forum a couple of times, but i do feel a bit of a trator using another site, and also because the fact that i would think my 1st post asking to nick marks would be a bit brazen. I will persivere on here for a while, but if nothing happens in a week or so, i'l try a post on there. But, your stinger record does look tempting though

    Solent help

Now i have my Keyhaven slip pass, i plan not to really do much fishing out of xchurch as i hope to enjoy targeting new fishing grounds. The only trouble is, i have marks passed the needles, and others such as the nearby bass marks, but does anyone have any solent areas that i can pop out of Keyhaven and try? E.g, any numbers for areas off milford shingle, or areas towards totland bay that will give smoothys or Ray, or the like(mixed light tackle species). I also fancy motoring the other way towards beaulie, with my target for the year, a club record stinger , so any numbers available. I have plenty of christchurch bay numbers, and i could trade one or two for some decent solent marks. PM if you can help Dan

  10. Dom with a very modest Thornback, but this pic illustrates how flat the water was out there. Duncan, yes, it was a hook pull.
  11. Dom in Keyhaven, unloading the boat.
  12. An early start sees my alarm going off t 4.30am, and by 5pm were on our way to Keyhaven with Dom and my dad in persuit of a 1st blonde ray after scraping the ice oft the car. we have the boat in early doors as we rush to beat low water, but shouldn't have worried as there was loads of water waiting for us. The new marks are in the gps and we start the trek ahead of a 30mile round trip that will see us fish a new area aswel an an exercise of seeing how the boat will cope with much longer trips. Out on the mark, after cruising at 18 knots with 3 on board, the water is mirror calm, and watching the sun come up in good company was bliss. Squid, and squid and maccy cocktail baits on 5/0 pennals and 80lb trace were the order of the day, and we were hoping the trace was also going to be strong enough incase we hit a rouge conger. The tide race was immence, and 2lb lead was needed, but hauling it up in the 135ft depth wasn't quite as enjoyable. We had bites from the off, mainly LSD's but a few small hounds were also thrown in. Dom then hit and banked a couple of average thornbacks, before my Dad landed the best hound of the day, a cracking starry that was just over 13lb. We all had another ray before Dom hooked into the target species. A big Blonde hung deep and with his rod locked over, he was making no ground. He wrestles with a but pad before sickingly the line falls slack. Just as the action starts to really get going, the anchor starts to slip, we re anchor the the tidal force was that strong and we struggled to hold onto the mark. A move inshore proves fruitless and we then decide to try the solent for the last hour as the wind picked up. Out of the wind, we shelter in Totland Bay, no real mark, but a few fish were present. I drop a small bass on a double squid bait, before Dom starts the doggie hauling. I then get in on the act with a couple of Jumbo Pout. On the way in, Hurst has really kicked up and looked very messy so be took the option of staying as close to shore as we could, before opening up to 23 knots on the flats. All in all, a very enjoyable session, the boat performed well, and we finished with 29.2 miles on the gps and with fuel left in the 25l tank, i'm pretty chuffed as the 95 year two stroke was pretty economical, especially as there were 3 on board. Off to work now, tired, but happy...pics to follow later, or in the morning. Dan

    Out Friday

well, it looked a nice day to have been out, and at least the tips were bouncing from time to time Tha alderney lifting set up is a doddle. chain needs to be heavier than the anchor, large free running ring with warp running through it. attach a lifting bouy to ring with about 18 inches of rope set to 'trip' anchor with 2 cable ties. Shackle chain to bottom of anchor and then use the ties to fix the chain to the top of the anchor. If you get stuck, the power of the boat will break the ties and pull the anchor out backwards. To lift anchor- motor the anchor out at about 45 degrees to begin with but as the warp tightens hold the warp flush to side of boat (do not tie off on a cleat) so that the line is running behind you, but still well clear of the prop. The bouy on the ring will run down the warp as you motor off until it gets to the point of it being immediately above the anchor. the upwards pull will bring lift the anchor. keep the boat going and the warp will carry on passing through the ring, followed by the chain, but it will not pass over the anchor as the ring will not be large enough. Because the weight of chain is heavier than anchor, the anchor will stay on the surface, right under the bouy. There may be a pic someone can post to help you understand further. Danny

    bread? or bream?
  17. Having never launched from Poole, i can't really comment, but the ones my way, eg Lymington/Keyhaven are pretty good. Although Lymington is better, i have just paid for a years pass at Keyhaven as its only 10 mins or so from the needles. You can launch/retrieve for most of the tide, and up until an hour or so before low water there is a poontoon to pick up from which is pretty much flush to the slip. Cheap as chips to......
  18. coolio.............lets go and get some blondes....................... and make a stop on the way home and pick up a brunette or two....hehe

Does anyone have photoshop? if so, any chance anyone can edit this pic as i think that it if didn't have the landing net and rods poking out and the rope down the side showing, then it would be a great picture. Thanks Dan
