dom had a call from a certain forum member on friday asking for the numbers of xray. he decided to trade and gave these numbers out in return for a bream mark close by. Dom is chuffed with his new numbers and his mate hangs up happily with the knowledge that dom has put him on to a great inshore ray mark. Yesterday the lymington lads launch out of christchurch for the first time, head for there 'inshore' ray mark, circle the area, drop the pick and wonder why no rays arrive. They are dodging boat traffic, get skis, dogs, beach casting leads, swimmers, dogs, etc. Clever Dom only went and gave them the numbers for christchurch harbour instead way to go dom! ok, the story has been adapted slightly, but i couldn't resist . 2 much birthday drinking i think bruv! and i knew you wouldn't really give that info to the lymo lot...hehe...sorry ed Hopefully he's given you the right info now oh how i will lauhg if that bream mark he has turns out to be lymo harbour enterance...heheheh

not enough tackle on board to fish the ledge mate

my 1st boat, sweaty pollacks that was 12ft and had a 7hp on the back. we often took it out of the harbour and fished within a couple of hundred yards of the end of the groyne and we caught loads of wrass, bream a few small pollack and some gars and bass and the odd gurnard, amongst a few more suprises. A stone throw away on another closer mark will give plenty of mackeral. I never atempted the ledge in it though even in good conditions even though i often wanted to. The main problem is the bigger motor crusiers hammer past you out there and its the wake that will tip you, especially at anchor! Other boats of your size will still give it ago though and i have seen them out there. The best plan though would be to stick to fishing close to the groyne and with a little practise, you will bag up as the areas stuffed with fish. But if you do want to travel further, id suggest firstly getting a buddy saftey boat, and also fishing on the drift as if a bigger boat does hammer past, you can point the nose into the wash. A basic gps can be bought for under

l echo terry thoughts and i am happy to take you out. I hate bream bashing though, so it will either be after the rays or bass. Whatever, we will get amongst them Green horns are fine, but lets wait for a settled bit of weather and we can pop out. Id reccomend you take up terrys offer to. always better to learn as much off different people as you can. Dan

Its only small and cheap, but ive fished the 9 mile banks, no problem at all, fished the needles winter cod grounds on lots of occasions, and and drifted the bridge for bass in lumpy conditions. There are benifits of having a top of the range boat, but you can also do very well with something of either older and or lower spec. Dat Dam Boat with lots of shiney stainless....

u will still get a very decent boat for that price, but the better deals come up in the winter. I bought mine, Dat Dam Boat, an 18 ft Red Bay Fisher, on a trailer with a 40hp Mariner that does 21 knots for 2k. Pic below, but it just shows what you can find if you keep your eyes peeled. Dan

hey mate, good 2 have another christchurch recruit! There plenty of good fishing to be had. I enjoy loads of fishing without having to travel more than 10 mins from mudeford enterance. Summer brings has loads of bream, wrass, bass, and gars on the reef, the same distance just a different direction will give you hounds, plenty of mixed ray species, gurnard, pack tope and winter cod and whiting, while summer night fishing brings decent eels, big bass and big huss. Autumn gave up some big trigger fish. Oh, and theres doggies everywhere!....All within 2 and a half miles steam and a couple of quid fuel You will never be short of bites mate. Some of the areas you will get to know include the ledge, xray, s.rough, the beerpans, the clan, d.sands and banks, etc. You will need to spend a bit of time working out where all these areas are and you won't go far wrong. I can't give numbers, or will broadcast on here where each of these are, but if you ever need crew, or want to crew, let me know and i'l take you out in the bay. I launch from mudeford, so i may see you about. Good luck Danny DatDamBoat

I popped out tonight for a few hours night fishing. The origional plan was to head for the clan and bag a few eels, but as we passed xray, we doubled backed on our self and tied up to a pot bouy for a couple of hours fishing with a ray or two in mind. Out with the 8lb class gear, micro braid and baby multipliers, only 3oz was needed in the small ebbing tide. Out came the squid and a couple of maccy all left over from my winter codding trips and as soon as darkness came, the tips started bouncing. We only fished from 8pm-10.30pm and the fishing was good, a mixture of dogs and rays (all comming to me, except one dog as my crew spent the whole time being sick ). Mirror calm water, clear skies, warm air temp......summers nearly here

or its a baby Tarpon.....Tom? I think that was a year ago 2day that they all appeared in ireland..lol

Alun, is there many rays getting caught from xray yet? a bit early i would have thought. I may look 2 get out in the next couple of weeks if and when they start showing there.

Bruv, the blokes a c0(k......... and he aint entertaining.....Get sky and watch some proper fishing, albeit repeats and, a series put together by the godfather of fishing film making Hugh Miles who put together passion for angling was turned down in place of this crap (the series was Dream Fishing with Martin Bowler and having watched a few clips, it looks superb).
