  1. Thanks Ian I will check if Wendy fancies the weather or not and get back to you
  2. Hi Rob Is there a list of scores so far somewhere ? If so can you direct me to it please. As Jayden could only fish this last comp, it would be good to see how others are doing as it may help us decide what to try and do next weekend.
  3. Well done looks like a good job achieved with minimum fuss. I am sure that they will work well on a fully loaded trip. A lot of the Motor Boats in the Marina at work fit anodes to the tabs and antifoul them [the tabs not the anodes] otherwise it is amazing how quickly they foul up.
  4. I am missing a couple too, so I will accurately measure the tubes when I am on board next. Maybe split an ebay order for 10 with Tommy
  5. Will have to keep an eye on the weather, Either very early Sat or its Sunday for me. Neither of the boys are available, so unless Wendy fancies it I may need some crew. If anyone fancies it please get in touch.
  6. Welcome Andrew The more you join in then the more that you will get out of your Membership.
  7. Very nice Brian
  8. Happy Birthday Dave Have a good one Mate
  9. Good luck with that Fred I believe that you have fitted the boat out very well for your Cornish Mako hunt. taking it very seriously this time mate, going for three months. I hope that those Blue Fins are not too much of a pesky by catch, with the price of hooks and line you had better wind them all the way to the boat so that you can save the hooks by catch and release.
  10. What are you saying Fred. Not surprised they passed the rod around, Yellow Fins are tough enough, As you well know Blue Fins are worse [Or should I say better fighters] When are you off west "Sharking"
  11. Great catch I saw it via facebook this morning. Just seems a little odd that the fish is credited to and pictures show the boats skipper. If a shark line went on a sharking trip surely he wouldn't be on strike. But maybe he had novices on board and could tell that the fish was beyond them when he did set the hook. Still a great fish
  12. Great to hear that your boats fished Nigel. Look out fishes
  13. Well done Chris
  14. Wendy and I are popping out later now the wedding guests have gone. Please add us to the list. Just in case we fluke a bass Lol
  15. Welcome Mel Look forward to meeting you and seeing your boat in the bay.
  16. Hi Ray That sounds like a great chance to try it out. I would drop a line while there watching the Air Show, we have had fun on light gear over the years [Just to the South of the exclusion zone] Ref the waypoint at every turn, IMHO not required if the plotter shows the deeper channels in the Harbour. Just observe the rules of the road. [international collision regulations] transiting on the stbd side of the channels at the correct speeds. However if the plotter does not show the channels then it would be worth doing. I would use waypoints to mark the position of the East Looe channel buoys, then a couple of points of interest to practice going to, Inner Poole Patch, Lobster Rock etc etc.
  17. Sam's wedding this weekend No Fishing on Alfresco
  18. First set in to your plotter all of the waypoints that you have and are interested in fishing. Plus any points of safety such as the end of the swash channel and East Loue buoys. When going out you need to do a simple passage plan. My recommendations for this would be to tie it up with the key factors that you have no control over, such as Bridge lifts and tides. You may not need the bridge lifts to get out, so avoiding them to keep away from the busy times in a congested area may be a good idea. Tides because of the fishing [some fishing needs slack tide , others need a good drift speed] but also to stop pushing against strong tides, strong tides around reefs and shallows give over falls [waves] that can make a huge difference to the sea state. Sorry this is a bit short, but its only a starter. Best advice would be to go out a couple of times with an experienced skipper or take one as crew. and get them to show you a few pointers. PM me if you have specific questions and I will try to help Charlie
  19. Salterns do Diesel and Petrel but they are not cheap
  20. With a week to go to Sams wedding, with so much to do and uncertain weather we have pulled out of the second round. Tight lines if it gets fished tomorrow
  21. Not at Cobbs but I have done a few trials over the years at Parkstone YC Finding that darker colours work best, but teh makes vary from year to year as to which is best We now use International Interspeed in Black on Alfresco
  22. As Martin says its down to you Jerry It is hard to use finances and logic as justification. Spending the money that we do on our boats tackle and fishing cannot be justified against costs. For the amount of fish we eat, I could dine in Rick Stiens every time I fancied a fish dinner and be much better off. But on a sunny warm day when the weather is calm, family or friends have joined you to play boats or fish who would swap it?? When I fitted out Alfresco I chose a £20K 260 hp Volvo package as opposed to a £13k 230HP mercruiser It gives more speed, better efficiency and reliability. And more fun 10 years on still think its the right choice.
  23. Excellent call Rob having nowhere for the charge to go is the normal cause of a rectifier overheating issue. many times found to be the battery or switch terminals
  24. Nothing wrong with the performance from Prodigy Pete
