klingon, if the weather and tide are ok then you will reach the cod marks fine. I took a little 14footer miles past the needles last winter and it was fine, likewise, Specimen is planning to fish the cod marks, so if hes brave enough, you will be fine....But remember to have the correct saftey kit and get the conditions right before you venture to far off. Get it wrong and it really can kick up out there, so be safe. Good luck Dan

ok, i still recon the carpark by the normal slip will be free this winter and i know that someone comes out and gets your money for using the slipway, but im trying to work out if the other slip at lymo is free, up by the ship inn pub.

Sorry, its normally free winter parking, didnt read txt back. not sure what slip charge is but i think its about a tenner for a car launch. Does the other slip up by the ship inn at Lymo ever get used? I know theres no trailor park, but is that free?

I launch from Mudeford everytime, only because its another 20mins each way steaming up the river from Wick to get to mudeford. The slip is shallow and you have to be careful as the water shallows up just past the slip as you aim for the boat channel, then there is the bar which can be shallow and can also have breakers racing accross it. If you keep an eye on the tides its no probs, also keep an eye on the swell through the run as i was bobbing allover the place last time i motored through. Its free all winter, but in the summer, launch just before 9am when its free then you dont have to pay for the retrieve. Lock your trailor up to the railings alongside the slip. Wick is deeper, and you can also flush the engine with fresh water on the way back up the river. I just like to maximise my fishing time and get out from Mudeford. I dont really know how they police it by getting 2 tickets as the trailors in the park can belong to anybody. I have never bought 2 tickets, but I know your ment to. Or, just down the road at Lymington, theres free parking with a great slip and also Keyhaven with plenty of free parking, and less fuel to burn to get to them winter Needles Cod. Dan

a secret squiril has reported to me of 2 cod being landed in the solent. Also a few codling getting caught from milford shingle bank. A bit early, but its shows the winter species are on the way

well done gordon, id love another crack at big game fishing. Last time i went, i was greedy and booked the whole boat to myself with about 8 rods. 500 squid and all i caught was a cuda. Wrong boat, wrong skipper.

Just back from majorca, a nice week away from work with the family with plenty of decent weather. In the suitcase goes the trusty telescopic with a few floats. Anyway, i didnt actually do any fishing, but spent most days on the rocks with Lewis my 5year old son, hes really getting the hang of this now, bagging a bream a chuck on bread. Decided to take a walk to the harbour where there was loads of mullet. No fishing permitted though, so we eventually searched out a small spot in the harbour that u were actually allowed to fish, couldnt see any, but after eventually got a bread trail going and a few fish came over. Mostly bream, but a few decent mullet thrown in. 5 bream and 15 mins later, he hits a mullet, only small about a pound, but his first. Next cast results in a lost fish, before he hooks another straight after. A great scrap that didnt see me touch the rod to help once brought a proper fish, that stripped line from the reel. 5 mins later and he lands a real beauty. I'l defo get him sorted as a member next time around. Dan
